    Condensate pipe freezing

Looking at that link it is correctly installed but so were the ones that froze last winter. I am in Scotland so we get some really cold weather.

    Condensate pipe freezing

I’ve just had a new boiler installed. It is a condensing boiler and I am concerned about the danger of the condensate pipe freezing. Last winter three friends had no heating because their condensate pipes froze. The condensate pipe runs for about 1.0m horizontally, then 1.5m vertically and...

Does insurance cover a car you are told not to drive?

Do youy legally need an air bag? As far as I know you have to wear a seat belt but air bags are not a legal requirement. If I am correct it should not take long to remove the air bags from an affected car.

    Hard wired camera

I was hoping it would save images to a hard drive or to my One Drive with some system of overwriting them after a reasonable period on time.

    Hard wired camera

I live in a first floor flat in a two-story building. I have a caravan parked on my driveway and I’d like to fit a camera on the eaves to let me see the caravan. Getting to a suitable position means putting my ladders in my downstairs’ neighbour’s garden. Not a problem once, but not something he...

Re: Toothbrush or shaver socket what's involved?

I fitted one of these. They need a deep box but there are no trailing wire.

    Smart Meters (again)

I have had many messages from my supplier, they basically say two different things. One says that between certain hours there will be an excess of energy available from renewables and anything extra I use in that hour will be free of charge. The other says that they expect a high demand between...

    Saniflo noise?

I live in a first floor flat. The floors are wooden with a reasonable amount of ash as soundproofing in the floor as it was built in 1905. My wife can’t manage to get to the bathroom at night so is using a commode. I’d like to fit a toilet with a saniflo unit to pump the waste about 15 meters...

    Cold Lay Tarmac

On Tuesday a contractor replaced a drain and put some sort of cold lay tarmac next to it. He used a wacker to compact it. It has now been in place for three days (72 hours) and is still soft. I can push it down with my fingers. Has it been badly laid is it this damp weather preventing it going...

Convert or blank off 2 gang socket.

Change the back box from a twin to a dual. Fit a blank plate over the left side and a single socket on the right. You would possibly need a hole in the cabinet for access if there is a joint needed behind the blank plate. This will involve some cutting out of the wall as a dual box is...

    Cooker repair certification

Thanks for all that. I suspected that a PAT test would be needed and I don't have the correct equiptment. My friend lives in rented accomodation so needs to push her landlord to fix this.

    Cooker repair certification

A friend has asked me if I will replace a faulty element in her electric oven. I am sure I can do it, but I am unsure what regulations I need to follow. If I replace an element, do I need to test the whole cooker and issue any sort of certificate? I don’t have the test gear to do this. I don’t...

    LED Batten fittings

Can any electrician recommend a supplier of LED batten lights that are easy to use to replace some existing fluorescent batten lights. I’ve seen a few different makes of LED battens and they all seem to be sealed units with cable entry at one, or two fixed points. I need fittings with a choice...
