Building a cabin on top of a "raised platform" - does that count as part of the height?

Am I right in thinking that if I haven't raised anything, I haven't anything to worry about? The land has been higher at the back for at least a decade - even the neighbor's house is lower than ours, so it stands to reason our garden would be a bit higher.

Building a cabin on top of a "raised platform" - does that count as part of the height?

Thanks. It's because they don't want to lose any light. They won't - I've just chopped down a cherry tree to make room for the building, and that cherry tree would have blocked more light if I'd let it grow. If I contact planning what kind of timescale am I looking at to get a written agreement...

Building a cabin on top of a "raised platform" - does that count as part of the height?

I've got a cabin ready to be built and just need the concrete base doing. Before I book in someone to make the base for me, I just want to check something. Our garden is just over 5m wide, and the cabin will be 4.5m x 3.5m. It'll be under 2.5m in height (closer to 2.3m I think). If it were that...

Drilling into RSJ lintel - will it take my bodyweight?

Still not quite there with this... I'm now thinking the lintel is a box lintel as the metal detector seems to be picking up metal close to the surface on the bottom and both sides. Looking around, box lintels seem to be for walls only one brick thick, while this looks more like two bricks to...

I get it. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers.

Drilling into RSJ lintel - will it take my bodyweight?

So you don't think these Grip-Its would be an option instead? I'm concerned I won't be able to find the RSJs.

Drilling into RSJ lintel - will it take my bodyweight?

Thanks Kazuya, I've borrowed a stud finder so will try that later. The person I borrowed it from said that these noggins within RSJs are only loosely nailed in. Is that likely, or would you say they're generally okay and I'll be alright using them? Assuming I can find them, that is.

Drilling into RSJ lintel - will it take my bodyweight?

Hi, I'm installing a fingerboard called a Beastmaker (basically a wooden board you hang from or do pull-ups on) on to what I think is an RSJ-lintel. It's where the house was extended once. The board is to be installed using 6 screws which go in about 3 or 4cm, which come with it and...

Reclaimed floorboards or distressed new ones

Thanks for the replies. Good points. I think we're going to take the reclaimed option and not worrying too much about having joins. It's more important to the other half that the boards look the same as the other rooms, and she thinks it'll be easier if we get some reclaimed boards. When it...

Reclaimed floorboards or distressed new ones

3 rooms with pine floorboards: hallway, lounge, kids' room. The hallway and kids' room seem to have original boards (or nice ones anyway), while the boards in the lounge are more recent, and really shoddy (variable widths, someone's cut through a load of them in a line, some split, etc). We want...
