Are felts that overlay existing bitumen flat roofs any good?

Hi all We have had some issues with a flat roof in a house we have just bought(discussed in a previous thread). I was particularly worried about the roof terrace but it seems the leak was just because the gutter had been blocked by leaves (the house had been empty for a while). Now...

Would you buy this house? Serious flat roof problem.

I did read somewhere that a good roofer can tell the condition of the boards by just walking on them - but I get your point - my problem is that if he thinks the boards are OK he might just re-felt over the top of the old felt - I've heard that this is often done - the idea being the more layers...

Would redoing with epdm or similar solve that problem without all the expense of adjusting the falls (whatever that involves) - I guess ponding might not be such a problem then?

Would you buy this house? Serious flat roof problem.

Thanks for all your opinions/suggestions so far but (thankfully) all in all we don't think it's as bad as we first thought! We had a roofer take a look although I'm not 100% sure with what he said. He thinks the water coming through from the roof terrace is pretty recent and so shouldn't...

Would you buy this house? Serious flat roof problem.

Thanks all. Pretty sure the roof is all board on timber Ed - although there is a concrete balcony just above ground level. We are very tempted to run away - as has been said it could take some serious fixing! We do really like the place but obviously there is a limit on how much work/cost...

Would you buy this house? Serious flat roof problem.

We are in the process of buying a 1960s house which has a flat roof (always said I would never buy anything with a flat roof but the area we want to be in is nearly all flat roofs – and we love the house!) Anyway, we knew it needed what we thought was just cosmetic work and we made our offer...

Advice on sound insulation for top floor flat

OK so after seem deliberation we decided to buy the flat. A question I have now is should we have a full buildings or a homebuyers survey? As we have some concerns about the structure should we have the full structural survey or will that not really tell us much more? The advice so far...

Advice on sound insulation for top floor flat

Something we will definitely consider. An update for anyone reading this thread: We went for another viewing on Saturday and found out a few things - 1. After talking to others in the flats no one has had any problems with noise – people were very surprised that we could actually hear...

Advice on sound insulation for top floor flat

Thought it might help to put up a photo (the complete top floor) if anyone has any experience of the construction of this type of property? Thanks. ps. I did take some photos of the area where we think the noise from below seems to be the worst if anyone thinks that might help to...

Advice on sound insulation for top floor flat

Hi Hope I have posted this in the right section? I feel a bit of a fraud on here because my DIY skills are quite basic (although now we are buying our first home I am hoping to improve!) We are going to put in an offer on a top (4th) floor penthouse style flat (as its advertised I’m sure...
