MDPE Lead Loc Plus - does it need to be exact size???

Hi there. I have measured the lead pipe and it's 22mm.. I bought 2 MDPE Lead Loc Plus for 7lb, 23mm lead before accurately measuring. My question is do they need to exact match ie what's the tolerance as I read it's better to get a 22mm fitting for a 23mm pipe and shave it down so it's...

Patio covering air bricks (& drainage issues)

not sure if it's rot smell, just some strange smell that comes and goes (a bit foul smelling so could be another matter altogether)... was fine in the summer but now it's cold again it's coming back now and again. The air bricks are nowhere to be seen on the side in the photos, just those...

Patio covering air bricks (& drainage issues)

Hi, We had a patio done over a year ago, but have started noticing some damp and some smells. Upon investigating one possible cause could be that the patio seems to be badly laid and not following standard rules e.g. butting up against external wall too high, no drain for rain water and fall...

    Garden office too hot

I think the windowless factor is the main difference here. I'm sure that's the reason for the extra heat. It's cooler when the door is shut than outside for some of the day until say afternoon, but I guess the insulation only holds the heat back for a certain amount of time... especially rock...

    Garden office too hot

It has so called solar blinds, but I can feel the heat behind them. I think maybe some solar film on the glass will help too.

    Garden office too hot

hi, yes it's ; WALLS: cedar cladding (on battens for air flow), breathable membrane, 100mm rock wool in stud wall, vapour barrier, then 11mm OSB. CEILING: EPDM rubber roof, OSB, air gap, 75mm celotex in-between joists, no vapour barrier but foil tape over joins for celotex, OSB ceiling inside

    Garden office too hot

Grow a tree over it... if I have 10 years + that would work! I have ordered a shade for the patio infront so will see how that helps as it'll cover the large window and door. (good word; 'succour')

    Garden office too hot

I understand that in the day it's likely to be the same as outside, but it's when the day starts cooling down early evening that the room gets hotter and hotter as I have to lock up and close the doors. Could be the heat behind the solar blind or some electrical appliances e.g. computer, but...

Jointing compound or mortar for mint sandstone

late update, but thanks for the advice. Opted for plasterers sand on advise from landscaper (in between builders and sharp for grittiness but whiter) with white cement and a little plasticiser. Was time consuming, but glad I did it as it's rock solid and looks off white like the pavers. Also...

    Garden office too hot

I've built a garden office last year and is well insulated, breathable membrane, air gap then cladding for breathable aspects. On the warm side i.e. before internal walls is vapour barrier which I research as the best for stopping moisture in winter, and effectively creating a sealed box. The...

Jointing compound or mortar for mint sandstone

I am doing a patio with pure mint flags and want a light coloured (no iron stains either from normal mortar) joints filled with something strong i.e. grout or mortar? Conflicting opinions from 2 builders: 1 says go for easy jointing compound, swept in and done in no time. The other suggests...

Planning Permission about to run out

Thanks as well for your info. Only started work a couple of weeks ago with stairs and moving doorway, but had to stop as we couldn't move out to planned temp accommodation so work has halted. If I get a building regs application in now and have all info ready would stairs be sufficient ???

Planning Permission about to run out

Thanks... that's a fast response! Would that be all of the above or one of the above as we've started the stairs but work halted temporarily.

Planning Permission about to run out

hi there. I have planning permission for a loft extension (needed as it's a flat i.e. not permitted dev rights) and is about to lapse. I've been told I can just start the job a number of ways to keep the planning 'alive' but might need some sort of evidence. I've got structural engineer...
