    Gaps between soffits and facias

Thanks for the advice & offer. The original "builders" stormed off when I questioned the finish. If they had of patched up the bits that I had initially noticed they probably would have got away with it. Anyway the contractor has admitted that the job was duff, and has another builder lined up...

    Gaps between soffits and facias

Yes, and the more I look at it the more problems I find. There was no attempt to trim the fascia corner joints, so I've got gaps at the corners half-filled with black silicone. Even found some of the nails don't actually go into the rafter foot. Have had 2 other roofers around, neither are...

    Gaps between soffits and facias

Thanks for the reply. I've now taken the time to inspect the work, and this is waht I found Instead of locating the soffit board into the rebate at the bottom of the fascia, there is a row of single nails into the rafter feet. The other end of the soffit board rests on top of the outer wall...

    Gaps between soffits and facias

I checked the last row of tiles, and I can see that they droop about 1cm below the natural line of the roof, so that would confirm that the tiles were not lifted. I thought that the inside of the fascia looked a little odd, given that there was a rebate there. Of course the rebate would help to...

    Gaps between soffits and facias

Looking at it again I wonder have they used the wrong fascia. The facia drops about an inch below the soffit.

    Gaps between soffits and facias

Hello, currently having the old wooden facias and asbestos soffits removed and replaced with upvc, on my 60's bungalow.. There are a few places where there are gaps between the soffit and facia that are large enough to allow insects in. In one place there is a horizontal gap between the soffit...

    Fitting Sealed units

I am fitting some new windows and have a few concerns. The seal units have a black tape around the outside, but I can see that the black sealant between the glass panes, sometimes protrudes up to 2mm beyond the perimeter of the glass. This is mainly, but not always, in the corners...

    DS-40 aftermath

I think that there probably was an airlock, which contributed the the swooshing noise, which has now gone. The instructions did call for the nutraliser to be added after the chemical had been drained. I drained down again, letting the HE feed running until the water was clear again. The...

    DS-40 aftermath

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't thought about limescale. However the problems at the boiler appeared as soon as I added the neutraliser, rather than a progressive problem, that I would expect if it were limescale. Also, when flushing the system (albeit too late), I did isolate each radiator in turn.

    DS-40 aftermath

Hi, Since there were cold spots at the bottom of my radiators, which are about 15years old, I decided to give the system (Potterton Profile 60 with 5 rads) a dose of DS-40.I ran the system for a few weeks and it was running well and noticably quieter than before. However, after...

    Uncapped Cavity Wall Insulation

Thanks for the replies. I'll not be using these people so will most likely use fibrre instead. However I'm still wondering about the wisdom of potentially having 3/4 filled walls.

    Uncapped Cavity Wall Insulation

Hi I decided to go for polybead insulation for the cavity walls in my 60's built detached bungalow. The surveyor came round and said all was ok. When the installers came round I asked them if the open cavity would be a problem. Initially they said that it wouldn't be a problem, since...
