    Electric shower tripping MCB

That’s the replacement breaker, damage to it and case looks like it’s been caused during installation, no idea how, it’s definitely not melted/burning. All seems to be working fine though.

    Electric shower tripping MCB

To update, installer has been out, checked for loose connections, tested the wiring and replaced the rcd. I noticed that under the original fault after tripping the MCB was warm/hot to the touch after the shower had been running. While the replacement remains cold, so seems like faulty breaker...

    Electric shower tripping MCB

Ok thanks will try to amend my OP. With a short circuit would it be likely to run for 5 mins before tripping?

    Electric shower tripping MCB

Newly installed Triton T80 8.5kW shower. The shower is tripping the MCB after about 5mins of use since it was installed. It’s on an 40A MCB which feels warm to the touch after it trips. Appears to be 6mm cable, the consumer unit is less than 18m away. No sign of water leaks, completely dry...

    Timber splice plate - nailing

I intend to use a timber splice plate, such as this, to join two lengths of 6x2. When nailing, my understanding is a nail goes in every hole. However using the 4 plates as pictured, and 30mm nails, wouldn't the nails meet in the middle of the wood? As the timber's 50mm thick 30mm nails driven in...

Concreting wooden fence posts into clay soil

Thanks for the replies. What do people think of this video? It seems to agree with my instincts on using gravel at the bottom of posts in clay soils and the potential for creating a well for water to collect. Anyway I've got some car underbody sealant on the posts (another debate - to paint...

Concreting wooden fence posts into clay soil

Hi, I'm building a lean to roof down side of my house. I'll be using 4x4 wooden fence posts to support the eaves side of the roof at a height of around 6.5ft. I've dug 2ft holes to set them in concrete. After about 1ft down the ground is very clay-y. Is it a good idea to put 2" of gravel at the...
