    Gravel front drive (pics supplied!)

I agree with Oilman. The use of limestone will prevent them from being spilled across the road as they do not tend to get stuck within tyre treads etc, they are heavier so do not move as easily & also they do not flow as easily (like Oilman says) so tend to stay insitu

    Retrospective Building Control Approval

It is a bit tricky to say without actually seeing your particular case, however I have recently carried something similar out so will use this as an example. The key part to this will be that if the conservatory becomes part of the main house it will require to meet thermal regulations as per...

    Water between walls

First things first I would be in contact with the Party Wall Surveyor who hopefully your neighbours appointed? Also take some record photographs & measurements of damage. If not have a lok at this link which explains it quite well -...

    Retaining Wall

I would suggest that the gravel goes the full height of the retaining wall to provide a location for the water to drain to easily. The graval does provide a type of filter to the weep holes. It is not a precise art however build as the diagram shows

    sagging joists

Try remnoving 1 - 2 tiles on the roof allowing joists to be slid in rather than knocking off all your best china through the house! This is normally the way when doing loft conversions i.e. through the velux window opening

gap between floor boards and wall

I am presuming the floor boards have been left as a feature floor? I would probably use a filler that was flaxible rather than a foam that 'goes off' hard. In previous years pure cork has been used & this is ideal, you can also purcase flexible fillers from builders merchants or DIY stores...

    sagging joists

In all fairness you are better to contact a Structural Engineer of sorts if they are deflecting that much with no load & you are thinking of using it for further storage. If they have defelcted that much I would imagine your ceilings have cracked as well? One of the eaisest methods is to...

    pebble dash/render dash

I do not know huge amounts about this but Bricks & Brass website, (http://www.bricksandbrass.co.uk/diymats/lime/mortar.htm) have always been very useful. You can add various additves & pigments to achive different colours. There is a forum on there that may well be able to help out. 8)

Resolving Damp Problems - What to do?

Dampness entering your building can be caused by numerous faults as I am sure your surveyors have told you. These include: no DPC, poor DPC, damaged DPC, no DPMembrane, external level higher then DPC, full cavities, leaking pipes or drains, high groound water tables, breached cavities, poor...

    getting rid of stupid ceiling

Without wanting to sound boring, & not wanting to scare monger, yet trying to help if you do remove the ceiling yourself need to check it doesnt contain asbestos. Anything prior to 1985 is quite likley to contain Asbestos. It is in very small quantities, so much so that (I...

patio 6" below damp course why?

You could always slope the patio to a central drain rather than sloping to the house. Surely this would solve all your problems? I would stand by the minimum 150mm below DPC.....

    Mixing Blocks and Bricks

I cannot see any major probelms with undertaking this method of construction. I would use a lightweight 3 Newton block rather than a 7.5 & also use 100mm thick rather than say a 120 or 115mm so that slightly smaller than the bricks width. There is no weight, other than self load on an...

    Garage Block and Beam Floor

The strength of the floor is gained via the beam & blocks rather than the screed. However 80mm (3") does seem quite slim, although quite normal if used internally on a domestic floor using sand & cement screed. I would probably specifiy somewhere in the region of 100mm solid concrete with a...

Guttering a semi circular bay roof?

Dont quote me but I believe that Screwfix do a gutter that can be rounded or angled. Try them, but I have never used/specified it myself so not promising. My only other thought is a lead gutter that is purpose made on site so therfore can be rounded to correct profile

    Granite/Corian

I believe from a conversation I had once with a rep from Corian that they run courses themselves. There are only a handful of contractors that do do it. Try calling the trade section - Tel: 0800 962116 (UK)
