Excellent, I get the idea, a picture really is worth a thousand words. Many thanks Shytalkz.

    Extending Foundations sideways..

The slab extends over the top of the existing footings but for a single skin, brick, short wall. So there is only a bricks width between the edge of the slab and the edge of the foundations - if that makes sense. The slab is at least 100mm thick, actually over 200 i reckon. cheers keith

    Extending Foundations sideways..

I want the new foundation to be outside the existing one but there is a single brick wall and floor slab covering the existing foundation. I don't mind removing the wall but don't fancy digging up the floor slab. Is there a solution? I suppose the problem is that any new foundation might move...

    Extending Foundations sideways..

Thanks Shytalkz, but doesn't this require raising the height of the existing foundations or removing part of the floor slab? Neither of which I really want to do...

    Extending Foundations sideways..

Is there a recommended method to increase the footprint of the foundations our conservatory stands on? I'm thinking digging a trench along side and then creating a strip foundation of the same depth should be ok but should it be tied in to the existing foundation in some way? It will be for a...

    Rebuilding Conservatory

I'm planning to rebuild an ageing wooden conservatory which now leaks rather badly. One wall is presently a solid stud wall as it faces a boundary wall. Ideally I would like to replace with blockwork or similar so the leaks don't recur. Unfortunately there isn't enough space for a double...

    Built in appliances

Hi all, Does anyone know why built-in washing machines cost significantly more than free standing ones? The only difference I can see are a couple of hinge attachments. I'm considering just buying a free standing and building my own unit to enclose. Has anybody tried this, would there be...

    Gas Bayonet Fitting

Thanks all but I'm not much clearer on the subject. Am I right in thinking the regulations don't require it to be capped? The socket is completely inaccessible to any kids with pens unless they were able to hold a cooker in one hand while poking with the other :D Keith

    Gas Bayonet Fitting

Hello, My mum intends to replace her gas/electric combi cooker with an all electric model. The gas is connected via a self sealing bayonet connector. I'm unsure if we need to get the connector capped off if it is left disconnected. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks Keith

Routing a channel in a long bit of wood

I need to cut two parallel channels or grooves in an eight foor strip of wood to run some sliding doors in. I'm thinking of buying a cheap 1/4" router to do the job. But as I've never used one before I'm unsure of the best method. Would I need a side fence? How would I guide the router over...
