Just to clarify something, you don't have to be RGI to disconnect a cooker hose. Another point that someone has made which is about temporary bonding. Do you know what this is and why you would need it?? Do the right thing and find a compentent RGI. We do exsist!!

I'm afraid you will have to remove the pump from the connections and not just the pump head. I have came across this before and I'm pretty certain it is blocked where the connections are. I would advise covering the circuit board with something water proof like a plastic bag or sheet to protect...
The other thing to check is the pump manifold. The outlet connection can block up and cause the problem of it overheating. It is worth checking this if you have cleaned out the DHW heat exchanger.
