I’ve had a partial rewire and the electrician removed the old shed socket because the shed was being demolished. The original 2.5 mm² T&E that supplied that socket is still in place from the kitchen to the shed location, and it forms part of an RCD-protected socket circuit at the main consumer...
That's what I thought. I asked for bearers, but they're insisting the thing you nail the floorboards into are 'bearers'. Am I crazy or is this how some people actually describe joists?
I think they're either mistaken or fobbing me off.
Quick update. I complained and they got back to me to say the 3x2 joists that hold the floorboards are the 'bearers', hence they have fulfilled their obligations as per the quote. Is that credible?
Bricks would be good, but it would need bearers. I don’t think the floor alone would be sufficient, and it will be a difficult job anyway. That’s why I’m thinking taking up some boards and packing with shims might be a good halfway house solution.
Like I say, the base is not completely level but a competent installer should be able to level it with shims, especially if it’s sitting on bearers. I also sent them photos in advance.
TLDR: I bought a shed and it's got a bouncy floor and no bearers. Do I have legal grounds to take action?
The more detailed version: I recently bought a shed at a cost of approximately £3500 with installation included. It was a bespoke 8x24' build. There are basically two issues with it...
So we want to get a new cooker and we want a 90cm range, but the space where the cooker is currently can't be expanded. Therefore, I wonder if there's another potential location for the cooker. Where would you put it?
The space on the left seems like a possible option—currently it's just a...
So, I looked into this. Called to window repair specialists. One quoted me a price over the phone, something like £150 per window. The other came round and told me they're not repairable because they're riveted hinges in aluminium and would only give me a price for a new (PVC) window. Is it even...
My bathroom window isn’t closing properly. I think it’s because the underside of the hinge is catching on the track built into the frame. You can see from the photo where it’s left a mark.
Bearing in mind I have rivets into aluminium and not screws, how can I potentially fix this, or is it a...
It was the blocked drain. I cleared it and it’s no longer spilling over in heavy rain. I’ve patched up the bad mortar. It was very crumbly in places under the gutter.
Thanks for your help guys.
What the photo/video doesn't show is that although they're not connected they are bodged with some kind of sealant, so normally it doesn't overflow, but in heavy rain it does. I think I basically have two problems: blocked downpipe and wonky gutters. Both should be fairly easy to fix though...
