In all the places with metal switches there's an earth wire that just needs extending so that shouldn't be a problem but I sent someone to the shop to get the earth wire and they explained to the guy in the hardware shop that we needed earth wire for light switches and they gave him stranded...
There's 3 wires at each fitting going into a cable connector which I think is the earth wire, so I'm going to buy some earth wire tomorrow and extend them so they'll reach to the earth terminal on the switch
No there's 2 switches operating it. Currently it's wired so that both switches can turn it on and off, but I can't turn it on at one switch and off at the other

I think the alarm is an Aritech CD 3403. Its been there since the house was built about 20 years ago and it's all wired. There is also an Aritech box in the bathroom where the issue with the light is and a buzzing sound does come from that box.
