    New patio problems - snags??

Cheers for the replies - I haven't paid anything yet and won't be doing. The flags weren't cheap at £45sqm.There's more than a couple of dodgy laid ones too so I'd only be waiting for the rest to lift or move, just glad I'd spotted it before paying anything. Annoyingly they did the turfing and...

    New patio problems - snags??

As it turns out the flags are moving and water pushing up through the gaps. Wouldn't mind but I only noticed by accident when I was putting stuff in the shed and heard a squelching noise.

Conservatory roof - opal or clear polycarb??

Conservatory (wooden) has been up for around 20 years (long before we moved in) and needs replacing. The bulk of the conservatory is being replaced with PVC but keeping original roof beams as the timer is still good. We'd originally thought of glass for the roof, but have since been advised that...

    New patio problems - snags??

We've recently had some work done and were quoted 2-3 weeks to finish. Raised garden area with sleeper borders (we supplied sleepers) which was then turfed - no problem with that part of the job, all good. Patio (36sqm) slightly different story. We're going into week 7 tomorrow and the job...

    Keep or replace?

I'd love something like that, but the house has steps up to the door...

    Keep or replace?

When we viewed the house it was the hall that we loved walking into, even though it was really obvious that they'd hashed some of it. We've seen some lovely hardwood doors that would look good on the house, and you're right about the porch. The tiles are original but the porch that is on was put...

    Keep or replace?

It is a newel post, but not a modern one. I'm amazed they didn't hack it out and put capping on it to be honest. The floor is well gone, not even sure it's repairable if we wanted to keep it.

    Keep or replace?

It's horrible, isn't it!? The couple we bought the house from did it, total abomination and no idea why they did it. The porch isn't original, they had that fitted too, so you can imagine the state of it. The dentils are all original. The skirting is being removed, so is the floor. The floor is...

    Keep or replace?

Massively undecided at the moment about what to do with our current front door setup. There's a naff wooden porch on the outside. Options so far are new Rockdoor with new framework and double glazed windows or new hardwood door and replace porch outside? The door isn't original but the frame...

Overboarding - Easy option or best option??

Thanks for the replies - appreciate the different views. No damp or salt on the walls - but handy to know about the boards stopping short of the floor. The other walls in the kitchen won't be boarded :)

Overboarding - Easy option or best option??

Hi - Yep, just wasn't sure if I'd explained myself properly! I'm happy enough to leave the wall 'as is' in the kitchen, but I would prefer (where I can) not to board over the other walls in the house. They didn't ask me before they did it, I came home and it was done. I'll be around for the rest...

Overboarding - Easy option or best option??

Hi Steve - it was only the one wall that had been boarded in the kitchen. The other room we had skimmed didn't have any boards except for the ceiling where the old plaster had cracked and was loose. The chimney breast wall that was down to the brick they used a mix (sorry, the name escapes me)...

Overboarding - Easy option or best option??

Hi Roy - thank you so much for your reply, it's really helpful. We're replacing all of the the skirting in the house as it has been cobbled with different types in almost every room. Would the boards go all the way to the floor and then the skirting fastens to it? The door architraves will be...

Blown plaster - should builder fix?

We had the same problem in one of our downstairs rooms - the builder said they'd had a nightmare of a job and had had to do the walls twice. They mentioned it a few times to me, but I wasn't sure what he wanted me to say to be honest. They put it right and I didn't hear anything more about it.
