Turns out the wires were not live. My live tester pen was giving false readings. I checked the wires with a multimeter and they were dead. Then connected up both ends and turns out the cable was indeed the same one.
So the basis of the this thread was incorrect. I can use the t&e to power the...
Hi there,
We have recently had a nest put in to replace the our old room stat and timer setup.
The old setup was a Honeywell dial stat. With a dial timer on the boiler. The only cable coming out of the boiler apart from power was T&E connected to the 24V switching section (not the 240V section...
Many thanks for your help JohnD. You have been a great help. They have some 600mm in my local Timber yard.
In terms of noggins should they be the full height of the joist (probably 6 or 8 inches) or could i get away with 4" sitting flush with the top of the joists. Also is nailing/screwing them...
Hi there, we had the floor up earlier in the year to have some electrics done and discovered that at some point in the past a when central heating was installed the floorboards had been replaced with MDF/Chipboard. (See pic)
The trouble we have is once back down the areas where the board is...
Yeah i have one like this already. Was wondering if there were ones that didn't come with the connections inside like this:
And were literally just a piece of plastic with a hole in.
Anyone know of any blank plates with holes in for flex? I could of course just use the current flex cable straight through the outlet to the FCU but wondering if they exist or whether its a buy a blank plate and take a drill to it?

They basically don't exist.
The only way to have a socket and the heating off the spur would be to have the FCU before either of them. So the FCU and a single socket in a duel box?
The socket would only operate when the FCU was on...
Just some random website explaining the regs hah. Ignoring the Zone 2 above 2.25m part is the part about zone 2 60cm from the bath correct meaning i shouldn't really have the outlet plate there?
edit: better site explaining the zoning regs:

Thanks that does seem like a better option. Only issue is that the flex cable wasn't left a lot of slack by whoever installed it. We could easily replace the element however.
Hi there having been reading up on my regs i have realised that we may have a small issue with the towel rail in our Bathroom.
The rail itself is located in Zone 2 in the bathroom with an ipx4 heated element. This is connected with flex to a flex outlet plate which joins it with 2.5TE which...
Thanks,
When i look at it again conceptually it is actually no different than if those two junction boxes were in fact sockets on a ring!
I'm going to swap them out for some maintenance free 32A ones before boarding the floor back up.
Hi there, having pulled up the floorboards in an upstairs bedroom i have found that there are two spurs coming from between 2 sockets on our ring main. One serving the hall downstairs and another an additional socket in the room.
I know that you can't take a spur off a spur from a...
