To be honest I’m not sure. Only reason I can think is the ground level at the back of the house was higher but I’ve dug this right back down to where it should be anyway to stop damp

I’ve got the same problem. I’m going to Remove the plaster so you’ve got the joists. Increase the joist thickness to 150mm then use 100mm insulation board between the joists.
Over board then your done

Extending the cables will be fine I'd personally blank the existing spur box. Make a joint in it so it's accessible and run it along to the new back box
