Whats these external trims called? What's best to replace with?

Hi guys, what do you call the black trim/boards on my 60s town house? I am going to get them replaced in UPVC. Is that possible? Anyone got any links to the stuff so I can research? It seems to be a ply or something and its very weathered and cracking. Thanks for any info.

Cladding material - replace with upvc, or ply again?

Hi all, our estate is having the plywood panels replaced as they are weathered as part of external redecoration. I asked for mine to just be painted as I felt they weren't that bad and I want to investigate upvc. Do mine look that bad? Been quoted £500 to replace. I really prefer upvc, can I...

Having nightmare with twin switch for spot lights

No all on same circuit, one switch does left and of course the other does right. All on same RCD, and the flexi is the same for both so two runs of 3 core to the switch. One red, one black with red over it and earth (sleeved off correctly).

Having nightmare with twin switch for spot lights

Ta for that, the fault I managed to create myself was the fact there are two feeds for each 6 lights. Both using same coloured cables, Red, Black/Red and Earth. So I managed to to mix the L1 with a Com from the other feed. I only noticed when I pulled the two lots of three core out further and...

Having nightmare with twin switch for spot lights

Ok, so on the back of the old one, the L1, L2, COM are grouped above each other, on the dimmer they are a different way round, I must of cross them over to L1 and COM from the other pairs lol. Anyway, its all sorted now, rushing it after work, should have waited till weekend.... At least I...

Having nightmare with twin switch for spot lights

Hi, its a dry lining box, I can't see any damage at all. Its all done up tight. As a sanity check, should it be Switch (red/black) to L1 or COM and is that the same on both sides?

Having nightmare with twin switch for spot lights

Hi guys, I decided to fit a dimmer in place of a switch plate, here is the setup: Bedroom has 12 spots, split into 6 onto each switch, so a double switch. There are two three core cables, Red, Black with Red sleeve and Earth. I removed the red/black from the COM and the red from L1 on both...

Sparky tried to do CAT5 repair!

Sorry, meant to add, its not an ADSL feed, its just a data link between to routers/switches. When a pop a laptop on the end it tries to connect at a gig, then 100 and finally 10.

Sparky tried to do CAT5 repair!

I'm tempted to try and re twist the wires, I normally put a RJ45 on each end and then a double female adapter but its in the corner of a garage and not easy to get to.
