Still looking for a Vaillant hugger in West London/Middlesex? Can anyone help as the pilot light keeps going out again and I'm coming to the conclusion that I'll have to replace the boiler with a new one.
Cheers
Mags.
Ancient Valliant still chugging away quite happily despite being written off this time last year. However, the pilot light has started playing up again so thought better get it serviced and have a bit of compressed air blown round it's bits.
Couldn't get hold of old plumber so just had...
Hi Big all
Yes it's 4.5m x 5.2, massive floor space but an attic flat so slanted ceilings! I've checked all the local carpet places but most of their remnants are 4m wide or in hideous patterns! I just want a plain neutral carpet to make the room look bigger. Wood flooring isn't an...
Hi,
I'm about to put my 1 bed flat on the market and want to lay a new living room carpet to spruce the place up. It's 4.5m wide so without having a join, I'll have to order 5m wide which not all carpets come in. I don't want to spend a a fortune as I'm not going to get the benefit of it...
Thanks for the responses! I would use standard battery ones but apparently the RF ones can be cancelled by a remote which would be a good idea for my rather arthritic mum as I don't want her having to climb up on chairs to cancel false alarms. Also, I need to interconnect as mum is a bit deaf...
Hi
Apols if this isn't the right forum!
I'm planning to fit some wireless smoke detectors to my elderly parents 4 bed 2 storey house. I know of one type of system, (made by EI?) which has a mains base station linked to detectors which are simply screwed to the ceiling in each of the...
Got the second opinion, seemed like a really decent guy, took the time to explain to me exactly what homeserve had diagnosed as the problem and was a bit bemused that it was working so well despite needing both heat exchangers replacing and a new combustion chamber, ie a new boiler!
He told...
Hi Kev,
Yes, I think it was black plastic originally..... It's on the extreme left hand side, near the front, maybe about 3-4 inches long by about 2 wide with 3 metal pipes about 1/2" diameter going in/out.
Any idea how long it might take to fit a new one or if it's wise to even try...
Right just managed to identify the exact model, no mean feat after several glasses of red!! :D
It's a VCW GB 221 H and the flat conversion dates from 1989 so I think the boiler's about the same age. Looking up underneath the boiler, I can see some scale on the underside of the left hand...
Just called Vaillant and apparently a new heat exchanger is circa £100... and if as someone else suggested, it doesn't take too long to fit, I would say homeserve have inflated their estimates by at least 100%, probably to wriggle out of doing it.
Any other experiences of homeserve, I feel a...
Guys,
Thanks very much for your answers, I'm getting a second opinion at the weekend from a local plumber who's been recommended. The boiler seems to be working fine at the minute, doing exactly what it says on the tin so yes, am reluctant to go pulling it all out at vast expense! The quote...
Hi,
I'm a newbie but I'll try to put in as much information as possible in the hope that you can help me with my dilemma!
I've got a 17 year old Vaillant combi sealed system boiler (model VCW something, at work so can't check) in a one bedroom flat, powering 4 radiators. Recently the...
