Taking the lid off is trivial as is removing 3 lower screws from the bottom of the front area.
I suggest lying the machine on its back when removing the heating element, this will allow the drum to be better positioned a the front of the...
For info - I have completed the repair by replacing the heating element.
It wasn't too tricky, just a bit fiddly.
I did take a few pictures along the way, and am happy to post them if people wish. They are only relevant for wiring - so that I didn't mess up :)

Thanks for the tip about the studs, I can see a few - I was a little unsure how to go about prising the front panel off.
If I can manage it, I'll take a few pictures and post back.
My Hotpoint 9324W tumble drier heating element is broken, I can see where.
Clearly it needs fixing, but I'm having a lot of bother trying to work out where the front panel screws and press stud fasteners are to remove the panel to get at the element.
I've had a web search, but I've not...

Well, I got one from a local shop (£14.50), strange name for a shop, but there you go ..... and about as cheap as I could realistically get online for a genuine part inc. postage (and another day without washing ;) )
The part has a date of 2/07, the other had 5/98.
I fitted it in...
Sorry to reply again, but I'm now convinced it is the interlock.
If it has a bi-metalic strip, then this has clearly failed now. As the machine was slow to start a 2nd cycle (or not at all), and indeed sometimes slow to start an initial load - this seems to show that the bi-metalic strip is...
To add to my previous post, I see the underneath lever *is* used. When I slide the mech across, there is a "stump" underneath another hole which clearly pops up preventing the lock from closing.
I just need to find out now why the slider isn't sliding when I close the door. I seem to be...
