Boiler stopped: now says, 'Check air/flue system'

Thank you very much -- again -- for those helpful replies. But I am now extremely puzzled! I turned the power for the boiler back on and tested first water, then heating separately. The fan (noise) came on but no ignition light for either and eventually fan went back off again, so still...

Boiler stopped: now says, 'Check air/flue system'

Just realised..! the 'yellow flame indicator' must be equivalent to pilot light and this does NOT come on any more. Only the green indicator light comes on - in fact it flashes continuously. The red 'lock out indicator' is not on either. Also the boiler is not actually displaying a fault...

Boiler stopped: now says, 'Check air/flue system'

The fan certainly does start up and I can hear it trying to ignite. I can't tell if it actually does ignite (embarrassingly) - I can't see gas pilot light. After a few moments (longer than it usually takes during normal heating) the fan noise stops. There is a reset button (symbol is of a...

Boiler stopped: now says, 'Check air/flue system'

Combi boiler: Vaillant Turbomax 842E This morning I woke to no hot water and no heating. The pressure guage on the boiler was too low and I refilled this up to 1 bar (I've done this once before about six months ago). For about 5 minutes I was then able to get hot water after which it gave...

    sanding and painting wooden windowsill

I would be grateful for any advice regarding painting over wood. I am about to paint the windowsill (interior) in my kitchen. There used to be tiles on this windowsill: I have removed the bonding that held the tiles (by soaking and scraping / chiselling this off) and am down to the raw wood...

    External pipe for new boiler

This is just to express my thanks, once again, for all the reassuring responses that I received earlier in the thread. We've painted the pipe and it blends in better with the house so that hopefully it won't be such an obvious eyesore when the local authority inspector visits shortly. Also, to...

    External pipe for new boiler

What is the point of this board, if it is not to ask opinions of experts? I am visiting the board to try and learn from professionals. I don't expect to become expert myself, but I hope it will help me to be a better customer. Given the amount of discussion that has followed, it seems to have...

    Installing new bathroom

Yes, I was wondering about that. I thought we could maybe extend housing up to level that would include cistern etc. so have wall-hung appliances (perhaps even taps), but I am really wary about accessibility (how would you change a washer?!) Thanks for your comments

    External pipe for new boiler

Is it usual for this outer, 'sleeve' pipe to be copper? (Isn't that a very expensive method?) And can I paint it with paint suitable for metalwork, or should it be covered first? Thanks very much!

    Installing new bathroom

Thank you very much for your response. We won't be doing any of it ourselves (except, possibly, removing existing fittings), but it is very helpful to have these tips - so I know what questions to ask. The bathroom is relatively small, 3m x 2m. Door is along south wall (2m) in south-east...

    Installing new bathroom

My friend is undertaking extensive (badly-needed) refurbishment to his bathrooms. He has two bathrooms, both are relatively small. He has decided to install one new bathroom and change the smaller room (very small) into a wet room. This is not a DIY project, as neither of us has anything...

    External pipe for new boiler

Thank you for all the helpful (and reassuring) comments. I hope I will be able to post something helpful to somebody else one day, but I suspect it won't relate to home improvement. Does anybody have a view on painting the pipe, so that it matches the colour of the house? (I can't emphasise...

    External pipe for new boiler

Thank you, that is reassuring. Where the pipe actually feeds into the boiler it is definitely narrower (looks like 15mm - compared with what is running along the wall outside, which appears to be 22mm). The transition from 22mm to 155mm happens inside the house, just a few centimetres away...
