Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

Hi @Mudscience The fibres were from Adfil -- but you can't buy small quantities. I was very lucky that they were kind and gave me a sample (my patio wasn't tiny - 100 sqm). I can't remember which specific type. I think the fibres you typically get for DIY are not really effective (from the...

How to lay patio slabs on top of block and beam?

Hi @Unclesam12399 - not sure you could lay direct on block and beam (I am completely untrained btw) -- I think the challenge would be setting up the beams - they are designed to be square to each other I think. If you allow enough space for screeding (which our builder didn't do) then that's...

How to lay patio slabs on top of block and beam?

It's been a while, but here is the plan we used. The fibres we used were from Adfil

It worked - with the above plan and some special fibres for ultra thin screed... beautiful

How to lay patio slabs on top of block and beam?

Sorry, I thought I had posted about this. Yes, SORTED! and very happy with the result. Together with my husband laid 90 sq m of large limestone slabs on Wallbarn pedestals ranging in height from 5mm to 44mm. We laid drainage slopes first with concrete, using some fibres for strength in the thin...

Tiling on new concrete floor that vibrates - glue/grout advice?

Thanks - we've gone ahead now and laid them without a mat; maybe a mistake, haven't grouted yet (room doors delayed by six months so can't finish tiling). Decided it is the entire raft that vibrates so probably ok (ie floor is floating concrete slab and moves, but it presumably moves all in one...

Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

Here's my shuttering plan -- the square kitchen patio already has a 1 in 100 slab laid, it's just the curvy bit we need to build. All slopes will be such that the raft thickness ranges from 55mm to about 30mm. Can anyone suggest ways to minimise risk? And should I prime the block and beam...

Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. I am only reckoning on 4 planes in total - it isn't that insanely complex! Will think some more. I have yet another landscaper coming tomorrow. They usually spend hours pondering and then say they can't fix it...

Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

@kingandy2nd -- you're right - the slabs are from 50 x 80 to 50 x 40, beautifully milled limestone so very smooth I have considered what you say; but we need to create a slope of at least 1 in 100. So we'd still need a thin screed to lay the slabs on. If we just mortar on the block and beam...

Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

Hi -- thanks - yep, figured out the rebar won't work. Half way through the project so it's hard to change - slabs already bought (8K). Decking difficult to build in this context and I don't like it either. The builder (long gone) made a lot of mistakes - the block and beam is simply too high...

Best mortar/concrete base for pedestal supported patio - thin slab

Hi I'm looking for advice on the recipe to use for concrete. I'm about to lay the concrete slab on which I'll fix my 30mm thick, large, rectified stone slabs using pedestals. The pedestals are needed to overcome multiple problems of levels and drainage. It will be laid on top of block and...

Pyronix 'engineer restore required' after removing sensor cover?

Hi - Huge thanks again. I never want to interact with a builder or an insurer ever again... The insurer gutted most of our house then after a year said they couldn't find a builder (!) to do the repair work. So we got a single quote from a random local builder simply to show it was...

Pyronix 'engineer restore required' after removing sensor cover?

You're quite right about using default codes. Can you please advise where I start to find out how to set the system up myself? I find the pyronix manuals either obvious or not detailed enough. I've scanned a lot of good advice on this forum but never immersed myself in it. Will have to now. I...

Pyronix 'engineer restore required' after removing sensor cover?

Thanks Secure I AM -- agree about the risk of insurance cover being refused - I don't tell the insurance company I have an alarm. Chances are the one time you're burgled will be the time it isn't set, and I believe if they can, they will find reasons not to pay up.
