    Repairing a ceiling

Is there a set distance apart for the rafters?? I can see where some nails are as when the roof was repaired, the banging has caused the plaster to come off, however it seems to be along the same rafter, which isnt the one\s we're trying to find!!

    Repairing a ceiling

Thanks for that info. Hubby was thinking to cut out the damaged bit and replace with a new piece of plasterboard.... not sure about that - I've warned him the new board would need skimming etc.... He is the type who will try anything and usually does a good job too :D (Just realised...

Not sure why you mention a loft.... its a flat roof so the damaged ceiling is directly below it..... :?

    Repairing a ceiling

Due to a leak in our flat roof, the utility room ceiling below got badly stained, and is bowing slightly (not much though). Today the roof was repaired, and the banging has made the plaster crack, its like a 3 pronged crack, so I think its going to have to be removed if it doesnt fall down...

    Replacing hot water cylinder

Well, excuse me, but I thought the whole idea of this forum was to ask for advice. For your information my husband is a mechanic, and whilst this isnt a plumber, I should imagine he has a lot more idea about these matters than an accountant would. He has already repaired a leaking loo, put...

    Replacing hot water cylinder

Ah thats what hubby thought.... well at least we can have the cold water for the loo, kettle, washing hands etc. Can I ask one other thing.... the old tank is leaking, water is dripping from underneath which we are collecting in a bowl for the time being. But this water thats dripping is...

    Replacing hot water cylinder

We are replacing our hot water cylinder this weekend. Will we have to drain off all the water in the system (meaning no water in the house all day) or is it possible to still have the cold water running? Hubby has said something about having to drain all the water upstairs because thats...

    Hot Water Cylinders

We are looking at a new hot water cylinder to replace ours that is leaking at the bottom. Now.... there is a coil in the cylinder.... does this do anything if there is no immersion heater? As I understand it, the boiler heats the water and it is pumped up into the hot water cylinder, where...

Convert oil filled central heating to gas

I'm no expert... but we changed over from gas to oil a few years back, needed new pipework from the oil tank to the new gas boiler but all the pipework from the boiler to rads, tank etc were ok and didnt need changing.

    Leaking Loo

UPDATE....... its not the loo thats leaking.... Discovered today that there's a pipe underneath and behind the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard that is leaking. (The loo is actually behind the airing cupboard which is why we thought it was the loo). In order to sort the...
