    Gap Under Roof Tile

Thanks. The old tiles (circa 1970s) are thicker than the new tiles (2024), so this is what I believe is creating the gap. They are both Marley Moderns. What would I need to do to rectify this situation?

    Noob question - light switch

Perhaps, what you deem to be a 'standard switch', could actually an 'intermediate switch'. How many switches actually control the operating light in the hall?

    Random Thought!

I recently replaced the felt on my roof. Recently, while inspecting the bottom row of felt, I noticed a lot of debris. This included tiny pieces of concrete tiles, little bits of wood from the battens and general muck. All of which, could potentially tear/puncture the membrane. It could be...

Help Needed - Major problem joining roof tiles

Are you saying that i should butt the tiles up tight ie with no spacing between them? If so, then i tried this multiples times and there is no chance of the tiles fitting. The new metric moderns are approximately 5-10mm larger in width compared to the old imperial moderns. I did notice that...

Help Needed - Major problem joining roof tiles

Edit: As much of my roof is exposed, can I start relaying the new tiles to protect from the roof from the elements or is it best to get a solution to the above problem, before proceeding? Is the solution a bonding gutter? and can this work if the existing tiles on the roof have a broken bond...

Help Needed - Major problem joining roof tiles

We are a mid-terrace house and the neighbouring houses on either side also have old imperial size Marley Moderns. I have removed the old imperial size moderns from our roof and replaced with new Moderns which are metric size. However, when laying a row of tiles (test run), I have run into a...

Thanks, never heard of the remote control mains sockets before. That's an excellent suggestion. I understand. To be honest, he is not worried with how it looks, he just wants light outside. You worry too much  I am very confident and comfortable with electrics (e.g. recently rewired 4...

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

IMO Poor quality tools and parts are often the cause of a poor job. Back in the day, I would use tools and parts aimed at the DIYer. However, when I invested in quality tools and parts, the difference is night and day. Invest in a quality SDS, combi, impact driver, drill bits, spirit level and...

Is it okay to power an outdoor light powered via a socket but to also have switch connected to the circuit to control the light?
