    problems turning power back on

Thanks for your reply, sorry got my wording wrong, nothing was actually tripping just the main switch would not turn back on - only after numerous attempts would it remain on. It was functioning like a RCD that would not reset and just kept flicking back off. When i pushed it up to the on...

    problems turning power back on

I did some work today for a customer who had an old wylex cu with rewirable fuses and an indepedant RCD. I turned the power off to change a light fitting and switch then turned the power back on - no problems. I then turned the power off and added a spur socket but when i tried to turn the power...

    Help finding a part

Thanks bernardgreen and spark123. Spark123 there is one push button which looks like 16mm and the back has 4 screw terminals (sorry can't get a picture on). The top two terminals connect the up and down switches together and the lower 2 terminals go to the electronics terminals in the...

    checking out old wiring

£90 is very reasonable and the fact that is with a written report suggests the person is professional and not afraid to write down the findings. I would not pay much more than say £130 as a flat only has about 3-5 circuits roughly.

    Spotlights

These are extra low voltage spotlights that do not require an earth so the rcd is picking up an inbalance between line and neutral, which is why it will not reset. You should be able to get a replacment fitting at electrical shops such as CEF, DC Homewood, Kew etc.. or could got try B&Q which...

    Fuse keeps blowing

Was there anything plugged into the sockets at the time? You don't want a socket on the same circuit as shower and boiler. It could be that an appliance fault in the sockets could be causing the fuse to blow. Extension leads are especially suceptible to this regular tripping. May not be but...

    Spotlights

Hi, how long have these lights been installed for? Spotlights do produce a fair amount of heat and are recommended to be a certain distance apart (usually about 50cm, but should say on installation instructions). Shouldn't be a cable size issue for spotlights!! Is there anything else on...

    sockets in garage

No, a 16 amp mcb is for a whole circuit. What are you going to be using these sockets for? Although a 16 amp breaker can take numerous sockets you really should know the impedance of the whole circuit before adding too much to it. Why did someone only put in one socket?
