So in the process of changing a cartridge in a leaky quarter turn tap, I must have done something to the pipe join underneath. It now rotates slightly and there's a constant weeping of water (circled red in the photo).

Blue - Neutral
Black - Switch Live
Brown - Permananet live

yes i think what happened to the previous fan was that water built up in the inside it, which reached the wiring/timer circuit causing it to burn out.
