    Outdoor bench seat paint

I had an outdoor bench seat stripped. I applied 3 coats of teak oil. It looked grand. But since having gone through last summer and winter white patches appeared as can be seen from the photo. Would appreciate advice on what to use for a lasting appearance.

Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

Re CBW, just to bè sure what colour wire is the neutral? Re Murdochat, pulling off the knob sounds a good idea.

Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

My new boiler was installed in Feb 2023. I saw the electrician doing something to the thermostat (on an interior wall by the way). I don't know if he fitted a new one. Must ask the boiler firm. In the meantime I send a photo of the inside of it.

Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

I've already done that. Re CBW, installed 18 years ago perhaps that provides a clue. I could chat to our local electrician to see if has any experience. Thanks everyone.

Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

Re Murdochat, I've put an ordinary thermometer next to it. And I always have to set the boiler thermostat 2 degrees more to get the boiler to come on. Re cross thread, no name on it but I'll try and send a photo. Re CBW, good point.

Inefficient boiler thermostat (thread no. 1) (WALL STAT) (Ed)

My newly installed Worcester Greenstar Danesmore system utility boiler has a modern time controller for separate water and room heating (Honeywell ST9400). The room heating side is linked to a wall mounted thermostat. That thermostat was previously linked to my old Grants boiler installed in...

Double glazing with a metal frame

Thanks Notch7. The outside wall is pebble dash applied many years ago. On the inside wall from the images, you can see a lintel above the window. It's 2 1/2" thick and has a sloping end to it. It's probably concrete. The other end can't be seen so clearly but scraping away the emulsion a...

Double glazing with a metal frame

That is a good point you make crank39 about the lintel. But just to be on the safe side the metal frame I was thinking about would be a thick steel box section square tube across the top and at the sides. To which the uPVC panel would be fixed.

Double glazing with a metal frame

In my old property I have a ground floor wooden framed window. The frame itself is sturdy and sound. But the wood around the small windows have deteriorated and need frequent maintenance. I would like to replace all the wood with double glazing. However I don't fully trust the lintel. Is it...

Can't start my hardlly ever used chainsaw

I live in pretty sparse community. Brian the garden machinery repair man is getting on bit now and works from his small garden workshop. No overheads! Thanks for the fuel and oil recommendations John.

Can't start my hardlly ever used chainsaw

Here is update on getting my Mcculloch to start. I found a local expert on chainsaws. He thought I might need a new carb. Anyhow it just needed a new diaphragm. He gave it a thorough overhaul and it now starts okay. £35. The handbook says 1 part of 2-stroke oil to 40 parts of petrol. But that...

    Leads from UK mains plugs

As far as I can find in the search box, no one has given a satisfactory answer to this question: Why do some UK mains plug leads come out from the plug top while some come out from the plug bottom? Bottom leads I think always go to items that require electricity direct such as cookers, toasters...
