thanks guys. the original connection at the shower end was compression with no pipe insert just loads of tape wrapped around it, so i'm guessing same at the other end. Think i'll put the cap back on again properly, go find the other end of the pipe & get someone who knows what they are doing...

Hi, I need to replace the float valve in my cold water tank, as it is regularily overflowing. the existing valve is the BS1212 Part 1 type. Should I replace this with the same or a Part 2? I'm a bit confused because both types are still available. Thanks!
