    wood sub floor

Sure. I was going to do that. However, I'm only raising 10 to 15cm and would rather just build a lattice of OSB on the original floor. If building a suspended floor, I'd have to build too many supporting points to support the joists every 40cm. Yes, and there are 2 differences compared to OSB...

    wood sub floor

Hello everyone, I've a sloping concrete floor to insulate & flatten out as a future lounge: I'd like to build using wood. I may need underfloor space for running services. Its a back up. Also, the situation of the house isn't suitable for concrete truck access. So, wood sub floor...

50mm or 75mm partition wall (metal stud)

Hi everyone, I'm doing final drawings for partition walls for re-decorating old house. Some spaces will be divided into 2 rooms. A non-load bearing partition wall will be made from metal studs. What should I use: 1 = 50mm metal studs (46 - 48mm actual size), fixed back to back...

    idea for lining shower walls

Newboy, you are right. Sagging if not fixed in middle, and humidity of air issue during sealing are the biggest risks. Its not worth it. I will cancel the idea. :(

    idea for lining shower walls

Understand. But I'm a stubborn git ;-) Polycarbonate sheet, does not crack. It's extremely tough. It will be backed by a framing. You can jump on this stuff, and it wont crack. Scratch wise, sure. But what are you taking in your shower that is so sharp? And I will advise soft cloth for...

    idea for lining shower walls

I will seal it this way: Top edge will be raised 10 cm above shower ceiling. Shower ceiling to plastic will be sealed blocking splashes from the most vigorous shower user. Bottom edge, the hollow sections will be filled 20mm deep. I will use expanding foam or silicone. Not sure yet...

    idea for lining shower walls

hi everyone, I'm thinking about lining shower walls with hollow polycarbonate sheet: I will build shower walls with plasterboard, then line with polycarbonate sheeting. There will be 1 corner join, sealed with silicone. Will seal join to shower base. Would like to install strip...

    Wood joist spacing

I'm very impression. I don't mind faffing, if its easier for me. Propping him up using 63 x 175 beams at each end would be easiest for me, would propping him up be ok?

    Wood joist spacing

Thanks for replying. I'm going to import with other bulk materials. Will just make sure is 23kg/m. You lost me on the stanchions and 4mm wall. >>>>>>>>>>> Would it be OK in your view to, rather than build brick pillars to support the girders, instead to prop it up with a wood beam (75...

    Wood joist spacing

Apologies for dragging this up from the dredges. Could someone refer me to a beam spec or beam BSI number? or advise what kind of material thickness it should have, I'm looking to buy this next week. many thanks / simon

    Wood joist spacing

Hi guys, I've decided to go with this option: The 75 x 225 cover the 5 metre span. I'll be using douglas fir beams. According to http://www.jrpcad.co.uk/Pages/Timber_Span_Tables.aspx - 75 x 225 should be fine with a 5.1 metre span, at 40cm spacing. Could I get some final input...

    Wood joist spacing

In the last image, the spacing are fine for 1st floor, in fact. I'm just curious about the vertical wood supports, 1 per floor joist, or can be less? Added to that, another idea to see if anyone has a take on it. Rather than using steel, is there a simple way to make some sort of high...

    Wood joist spacing

would the sleeper wall need a vertical support for each floor joist (10), or could get away with using 4 or 5 (as per last image).
