I am planning a 2 storey timber frame extension and would like to know what type of lintel to put above 1800mm and 1200mm windows. I have been told conflicting information about using class C concrete lintels. Any advice please.

Looking at the plans for my timber frame extension, it mentions 'base plate'. forgive my ignorance but what is a base plate for?
