Thanks for all your help.
I followed your instructions and I have lights again! I'm going to remember to properly record how the lights were wired next time before do anything,
Cheers,
Ollieman.
Thanks everyone for the information, I'll rewire as suggested. Don't be too harsh on me (Ban all sheds) I've had the flu this week. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes.

I have the following lighting problem:
Took down an old pendant light fitting in the kitchen thinking it would be a straight forward to replace it with a modern light fitting with 3 spot lights.
There are two cables in ceiling, one I assume is the supply and the other going to the light...
What do you mean (hole in the wall style one)? if you are installing a new gas fire or a wood burning stove you should use a flue liner. so why don't you just use what you already have? The concrete block that blocks the chimney keeps the flue liner in place and I think also improves efficencey...
Thanks for the help guys, I've had a look behind the switch and the 4 blues are all connected in a connector block, all the earths are also connected in a seperate connector block. Seems it is a loop in at the switch if thats the correct terminology. I'll do as you both suggested. Thanks...
I can recall before the second fix was done that the cables (which are all (T+E) were labeled as follows:
F+N
F+N
Right Row
Left Row
The electrician told me that if I want to split the room then I would need to take a cable from the existing light switch to the new light switch. I was...
I have a single room which I am splitting into two rooms this weekend. There are 4 recessed downlights on one side of the existing room and 3 on the other side. These lights are operated from a 2 gang light swicth. One switch operates one side of the room and the other switch operates the other...
You might want to check what is causing the floor to bounce as it could be unstable. Can you easily lift the floorboards at the edges where the joists are supported at the walls?
You should check with your local building control dpeartment as you might need an engineers certificate to put a...
The RCD is brand new and fixed onto the same ply backing as the main fuse board which itself is from around 1990. Th RCD is linked only to the new upstairs radial circuit. The cables were joined by junction box. I hope this makes things clearer.
Does the window to the room have a trickle vetilator or and means of ventilation? if so do you keep the vent open? Its a bad idea to dry clothes on the radiator. If there is no ventilation to outside then the room will be full of condensation. Anyway it'll help to keep the room ventilated and...
The lights are a seperate circuit on its own fuse. I didn't replace the fuse box, there is a seperate rcd connected to the new upstairs radial circuit.
The loft was previously converted in the 80's, I stripped everything back and started again. thus there was power in the loft (2x doubles...
I would like to have an idea of what the fault might be because
a.) I don't want to be ripped off and lied to by the electrician
and
b.) I'm worried this might be a spanner in the works of what was a reasonably smooth loft conversion which took me over a year to do almost entirely single...
I've just had the electrical second fix completed by my electrician for our loft conversion. Before leaving he did a number of tests on the new upstairs circuit. The circuit is a radial with 5 double sockets, the floor area is approximately 35m2. The electrician left and I assumed all was okay...
