With a fixed price repair would this be included in the price or added to it? Also you said they wouldn't try and sell you a new one ? Would they repair the pcb or am I getting confused?

What kind of price are we talking about here? and is it a fairly straightforward job?

What's the best proceedure for checking those? Would I need a professional to check them? and possibly specialist tools?

I think there's a misunderstanding here, we used to have the boiler serviced ,and also the valor fire in the front room also had a clean and service at extra cost. It was only the engineer that checked the chimney flue (not the boiler flue) that he said it would need a liner at a cost of £600...
