Hi. as a newbie i'd like to tap your vast knowledge (creep, creep)
I have a 7 year old Worcester combi boiler which has been serviced for the past seven years with no problem by B gas. After qouting us an extortianate amount for a chimney flue we decided to ditch B gas and get a flue fitted by an outside contractor (corgi reg.) for a fraction of the price.
Anyway now the boiler is playing up now we have no contract!!
The symptoms are after the c/h has been on for some time, and a demand is put in for h/w the boiler tends to click on and off in quick succession, as though it's turning on and off every few seconds and a loud thudding noise eminates from the boiler although as yet the c/h and h/w are fine. I f either are turned off this usually allows it to settle down, and if only one is on then there is usually hardly any problem.
Is this a sign of some major impending doom or a relatively cheap repair as I' m reluctant to get Bgas in again as I would probably be paying through the nose!
Hope you can help, cheers.

£180 for up to three main components, Someone was on here the other day saying that WB practically rebuilt their boiler for £245.

Should of stayed with us! No I understand we are expensive, but BG do have massive overheads which unfortunately have to be passed on to the customer. What was the quote for the vertical flue?

What Worcester is it?

internal flue joints are not sound and on max rate/heat burner is not getting sufficient clean air for combustion and is smothering, hence the woomphing/thud from boiler. You need to get it fixed asap, its gonna cost and you will have to re-claim from bodger. Get a written report and seek legal advise. They chose to do the job at a cut down price, you don't have to accept shoddy/faulty work because it was cheap.

We had exactly the same on a Vaillant we installed in 04.

Customer was quoted a cheap price by a roofer (CORGI qualified I assume  ) to lift the flue 4" during a refurbishment this year.

When the boiler started banging we got the call out and the customer said it couldn't be the roofer because he knew it had been done properly. Roofer turned up and got all aggressive.

The symptoms you describe are typical of rebreathing the products of combustion.

Get the cheapo Corgi guy back. And remember that the exam is a multiple choice and there are huge differences in knowledge, it is not a level playing field out there.

I think there's a misunderstanding here, we used to have the boiler serviced ,and also the valor fire in the front room also had a clean and service at extra cost. It was only the engineer that checked the chimney flue (not the boiler flue) that he said it would need a liner at a cost of £600. I managed to get an outside corgi reg. fitter to fit a liner for £275.This sorted the fire out.
Now as regards to the c/h the flue has been given the all clear on the service sheet when the boiler service was last carried out (february 2008)
We decided to ditch Bgas in favour of this outside contractor who would carry out an annual service on the fire and boiler for a set fee.
Because of the symptoms of the boiler ie. intermittently clicking on and off when c/h on and h/w demanded the outside contractor seems reluctant to tackle the job as he seems unsure of the cause.
Having read many forums for info I hope one of you knowledgeble people can point me in the right direction.
