    sand in loft!?

Thanks to all for the quick replies. No exposed beams to speak of. I don't think it's soot; the stuff has the consistency of fine sand and is not as 'dirty' as soot. The roof was possibly slate originally but has been tiled within the past five years or so. I think I can hear an...

    sand in loft!?

Hi all, The house in question is a 19th century Victorian railway cottage. There is a 4cm layer of dark grey sand between the joists in the loft. Could this have been an attempt at insulation? If not then what? For improved insulation, please recommend either removing this sand and...

    Lead pipe leak...

Seems to be directly off the main as both the inside and outside s/cocks fail to stem the flow. Enters property vertically in an outside dunny bottom left corner. (Couldn't be much closer to the corner). Pipe rises 2.5" out of the ground, then elbows 90 degrees 2.5" parallel to the side...

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=11260&ts=77159 I'm toying with the idea of these at the moment. They look dead easy and are a fair bit cheaper.

Patio door locked - no key Goddammit!

Yeah, insurance pre-requisite apparently...two on each patio door, three doors in all...not too cheap in my case  Thx again.

Patio door locked - no key Goddammit!

That's the bugger! I'll give drilling a go then...Sunday probably. Thanks for the reply and good link btw. With a bit of luck they'll be able to post me the Yale one-key system that I like the look of. New house and lots of 'little tests' to contend with so maybe not my last thread...

Patio door locked - no key Goddammit!

Hi. It's a 'normal' patio door with a euro cylinder lock. (Hope this is correct terminology). It's a recently bought house and there's absolutely no danger of obtaining a key. :x Given that I intend to replace the lock anyway, what's my cheapest option? Are these drillable/angle grindable...
