whistler - did you need to depressurise or drain the heating system? or are there valves which stop any water?

I'm OK with electronics and general plumbing stuff. Is changing a early diverter valve somthing that I can do myself or does it have to be done by a corgi registered guy.

gordongas - "diverter valve ,domestic diaphgram".....is this 2 seperate faults or 2 possibilities for the failures?

Has anybody any ideas what the problem is?

weareleeds - yes the central heating pipe does get warmer with preheat off and like i mentioned the HW is stone cold when preheat is off. pannierstan - was the "Oh dear" comment just a general vote of sympathy or do you know if point 2 means something very bad? :?

Thanks a lot for that, will try it later tonight. 2 important things to mention. 1. I made a mistake on the model and it is a Vaillant Turbomax Plus. 2. I forgot to mention that when I switch off the "warm start" which I'm guessing is preheat we get No HW at all.
