Plastic roof channels/valleys - condensation issue

Yeah, all of which combined is why I'm really stressed about it, and dread asking the builders to do that. If I were the builder I'd be really annoyed being asked to re-do all that. Seems like a huge upheaval to put something basic right, but if not done now then I'm looking at a self-made...

Plastic roof channels/valleys - condensation issue

As I understand it, if the Building Control authority deem it unsafe or not up to standard, they would basically order the builders to revisit and fix the issue at their own cost, as they hold that legal authority. The independant builder told me it would be a 3-4 day job max, so I'm just...

Plastic roof channels/valleys - condensation issue

Alright, I have an update on this ongoing saga. I got an independant builder to take a look, and he said while it's not an immediate concern with rot or mould, it is definitely not done right, and he reccommended I get the Building Control inspector round to check it, since it clearly wasn't...

Outside light flickering during wet weather

If there's water inside the wall cavity of course I won't see it anyway. But I'll see a pool of water inside the light fitting itself, if that's there. I suppose my real question is, might this pose a fire hazard or safety risk if I leave it too long.

Outside light flickering during wet weather

Hi all. I have an outside light which seems to flicker like crazy. At first I thought faulty light bulb, but then I realised the problem is worse when it is raining. In dry weather it's either a steady dim light, or not working at all. In wet weather it flickers and flashes randomly. I...

Honeywell wireless thermostsat won't pair with reciever (UK)

Thanks, yeah I need to 'factory reset' the reciever to clear it before re-binding. Thanks so much for identifying what my receiver actually is! BDR91. I think those instructions will help me a lot. Cheers.

Honeywell wireless thermostsat won't pair with reciever (UK)

Hi there, I am having trouble pairing up this Honeywell wireless thermostat with the remote reciever which was pre-installed. The thermostat is a T3H700RF0096, replacing a broken T3H700RF0096-1 which used to work fine. Both the replacement and old are visibly identical, and both are Reciever...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Thanks for the reply. I meant put some insulation on top of the superfoil. On the underside of the roof valley. I'll try this - or maybe an 'insulation sandwich' - loft insulation between two superfoil layers.

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Agreed. It's the whole thing, including ventilation and insulation. But imagine if you had a perfectly insulated/ventilated loft with no condensation, complete system was good, then one day you stuck a single-glazed thin window in the middle of the roof. Then imagine ice, snow, rain, wind...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Yes, that's what I'm realising. The exposed cold plastic valley effectively becomes a dehumidifier, condensing loft air on its underside and running it down to the gutter. Which would actually be fine if it didn't run next to wooden supports, dripping all over them. I'm pretty sure if I can...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Yep, sounds about right. I have the 3mm SuperFoil. I experimented and found that a single layer has limited effectiveness, just attracts a thin layer of moisture on top. But if I double up with 2 layers it is pretty much bone dry. I think anything is better than bare exposed plastic with...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

OK yes I get all that, but is it not possible that regardless of insulation and ventilation, an exposed thin plastic sheet (the 3mm roof valley), with outdoor weather on one side, and loft air on the other, is simply prone to condensation? So I'm looking to 'thicken' or 'insulate' that plastic...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Thanks, I had already read through the condensation FAQ a few times before posting this, unfortunately it doesn't cover my situation which is a bit unique (and uniquely annoying). The plastic roof valleys for some reason in my loft have no membrane under them, they are fully exposed, and the...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

I know it won't take the vapour away but it will stop it condensing on the roof valley and dripping into woodwork. I have lots and (I mean lots) of ventilation up there. I have added more soffit vents and lap vents. I have pulled all the insulation away from the soffet vents. I have added...

Using anti condensation paint on platsic surface

Presumably it's coming from the air in the loft space which is slightly warmer than the freezing temp outside, and condenses on the thin plastic surface. I have soffit vents, lap vents and insulation, but nothing stops this. I have had some success covering the plastic with SuperFoil but I...
