    3 phase conundrum

OK, I jumped down your throat and I apologise. It's a very touchy subject for me because I'm out of pocket to the tune of £1,000+ and there is a relative involved. A difficult situation which has made me determined to understand what is going on. You're right, I didn't mention any firm but...

    3 phase conundrum

Errrrr.... Have you looked back at all the previous posts on this? Perhaps you should. It has been a long, ongoing, well advised project, with the installation, if not the provision of components, undertaken by a local firm of experienced, well respected electricians, with over 50 years...

    3 phase conundrum

Thanks for the response. That's pretty much the answer I'd hoped for and not some added complication this job seems to have produced - in spades. I assume the 4 pole will still be OK used to switch 2 feeds from 2 separate RCBOs mounted on 2 different phases on the TP board? I wasn't quite sure...

    3 phase conundrum

I know it's a while since this thread was active, but: The Acti9 TP board is installed and (mostly) tidied up. It looks a whole lot better and the next phase of the upgrade is underway. There will be two 3.2Kw storage heaters in an area of the new build where I couldn't install an extension of...

The Best Boards for a Floating Floor?

Got it. I can see from the link you sent that some of the systems have about four or five times the overlap area. Many thanks. Will

The Best Boards for a Floating Floor?

Apologies for the question, but I'm not quite sure what you mean regarding the Fermacell gluing the adjoining boards. Is this how would the layers go? From the bottom up: DPM - already there Concrete - already there PIR - bought but not laid yet Underlay - what type...

The Best Boards for a Floating Floor?

I'm seeing quite a lot of quite strong opinions regarding the possibly less-than-usefulness of chipboard as the top surface for a floating floor. I'm just at the stage of ordering the flooring I'm going to use and want to find the best option. It's a new-build sun room, cavity wall, very well...

    3 phase conundrum

OK, understood. Mine operated with 12 volts because the reed switch could only handle about 1/2 amp at less than 50 volts………..and to avoid any significant voltage being allowed to get mixed up with a domestic water supply system. In my house wiring case it isn't a problem.

    3 phase conundrum

Thank you. The terminology I wasn't familiar with but the practicality I am, I think. It's probably a low voltage (less than 50 volts) trigger circuit to switch the relay for the heavier current immersion circuit. Allows them to build the meter without including lumping great relays for...

    3 phase conundrum

It's less than 2 metres - as in replacing the position of the ancient MEM isolators in the original picture The aim is to have all the TP cables in trunking/conduit - unless there's a better option. Each TP machine has its own internal overload trip in the starter box. They are all induction...

    3 phase conundrum

36 to go for and only 12 (4 x TP) required for machinery :) The following questions remain: 1. I've still not got a clear idea in my head regarding what sort of protection to use on the incoming side of the TP board. 2. I can see and am happy with the reasons for using individual RCBOs on all...

    3 phase conundrum

Iggifer: Could I correctly expand the above with the following? …………. because if the lighting circuits were on different phases, as in the case of, say, a two gang light switch at the bottom of the stairs, one switch for the downstairs hall light (off the downstairs cct L1) and another switch...

    3 phase conundrum

Sorry for a lack of perception but do you mean it's not necessary to use more that one phase? I guess a lot of this arose because everybody (me included) wanted to tidy up and modernise the mess that's currently there.

    3 phase conundrum

Spark123: a question based upon the above (and the attached picture) First, I can see the purpose of the neutral switch line to the off peak contactor but there is a second connection to that output terminal from the meter. It goes from the meter to the neutral terminal (Henley?) block...

    3 phase conundrum

……… so leave it as it is, just replace the non-Amd 3-compliant CU and fit the Acti 9 panel as an isolator and supply point for the TP? I guess it is the easiest and simplest option. Currently: L1 supplies off peak immersion (through a provider time switch) the temporary...
