Converting Steel Gas Pipe to Copper - How?

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help. No Bripl, it's not a SNEHNE job! I have got British Gas coming out next Thursday to do it. I just didn't want them to turn up and say they could not do the job, or my whole kitchen refit plans would have been ruined. I hadn't seen steel gas pipe...

Converting Steel Gas Pipe to Copper - How?

Hi, Many thanks for this - I've had another look, and I think the pipe is 3/4" iron pipe. Is there such a thing as 3/4" male to 15mm adapters? If so, any idea where I can source one, or would it be fair to guess that Britich Gas technicians would carry the gear to do this? Thanks again...

Converting Steel Gas Pipe to Copper - How?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help with this question. This is not something I intend to do myself, I am getting a plumber to come as I am fitting my kitchen, but don't want to get to the day and find it can't be done. I currently have a fitted hob, but will be replacing it with a...

Cleaning / Flushing a Central Heating System - Advice please

Thanks guys, I think I will hire a power-flusher - a couple of q's 1) Do you feel I should change all the rads, or just the ones that show signs of rust? The rusty ones look like they have rusted from the outside (not sure how though in a dry room). Except, that is, for one, which has a bad...

Cleaning / Flushing a Central Heating System - Advice please

Hi, I have to replace the mid-position valve, and a couple of rusty rads in my system. Since the system (I suspect) has never been serviced in it's ten-year life, I want to take the opportunity to give the system a good clean-out. What would be the easiest way to do this? I'm...

ring main in concrete or wall?

Fair comments il78. I've been in a similar situation, where the client refuses to pay for the correct job, and I've had to take the choice whether to continue and abort the job. There are some where i've gone along with it, and others where I've refused to do the work. Your situation...

ring main in concrete or wall?

I wonder why you spend so long criticising and arguing with someone who simply found and joined this site to offer advice to people who requested it? My god, what the hell does it matter? The question was asked what the regulations were, and I answered. For your information, I am not...

ring main in concrete or wall?

I am I going to say it's in the regs so it must be right, buit apart from what I'm about to say, I'm not going to justify it either. As a professional I think it makes sense, and encourages best practice. The big thing is this; As I have said, on a ring, because of the ring, there each...

    Two dimmers on one circuit?

In all my years as a sparky i've never come accross this one, but the answer would be no, at least not using standard dimmers - you can have a two-way dimmer, whereby you have a dimmer and a two-way light-switch, but not two dimmers. The second switch would switch the light on at whatever...

ring main in concrete or wall?

Dunno if you can get rubber boots - probably, i'd have thought. If not, put a coupler & brass bush on the ends - I think you can get ones that mean you don't need to put a thread on the conduit. You are still correct that you can't have more spurs than there are sockets on the ring. It does...

ring main in concrete or wall?

Ban - you can still run spurs off the ring via JBs, but most sparks avoid it when they can - makes fault-finding etc more difficult in the future. Sometimes it's unavoidable though. Mike, i'm with you now, it would provide very good protection for the drops. We usually use plastic or tin...

    Infra Red v Fan Heating

I would always go for the downflow fan heater. I think those infra-red heater are nasty, nasty things. They belong in the last century - exposed glowing elements? How 1930's!!!. About time the regs banned them in my view. Dimplex do a fantastic fan heater - the FX-20 - I've fitted loads...

    Flourescent tube

Guys, my ha'penny worth: It is true that the flurry takes a gulp of juice when you turn it on, but in a house with a couple of tubes, it really is irrelevant. It's more of an issue in a shop or office with hundreds of fittings. You really aren't going to save enough to make it worthwhile...

    earth query

Breezer is correct. I would never do this. If someone disconnects the earth to the central heating for any reason, they are inadvertently disconnecting the earth to this light without realising it. This is not acceptable. Have a good one P
