Gaps to sides of upvc windows

Spray water onto the frame and anything else where you dont want to be cleaning excess foam off.....Once you have filled any gaps, spray foam with water again,as this will stop it expanding so much and will make it safe to touch without getting it all over your fingers...as its a nightmare to...

    Failed door varnish

How long did you leave the door to dry before varnishing it...depending on what type of wood and the thickness of the door it can take 3 to 4 weeks for it to dry out fully. Even if it seems dry to the touch the middle of the wood could still be soaking wet, which if you paint or varnish too...

Don't remember saying I had installed new parquet floor.I think I said there was a new parquet floor in the dining room....you seem to read what you will into anything I post and then interpret that into what you think I might have said. MMM let me think.Inch battens .... so that would be a...

    Just bought a house.Needs a rewire.....but.

Maybe I am asking the wrong questions. What size cable would a professional electrician use in a normal 3 bed house if he were to wire a ring main for 2 rooms down stairs and 2 bedrooms with a small box room upstairs.(on separate rings) As a ring feeds the cable from both ends would there...

    Just bought a house.Needs a rewire.....but.

Thank you Ban-all-shed for your very detailed and informative reply....but maybe you should have read my post properly.....Nowhere did I put that I was planning to wire anything up....all I wanted to know was about 2.5 twin and earth and if the cable my friend gave me was suitable for a new ring...

    Just bought a house.Needs a rewire.....but.

Just bought our first house, got a good deal as it needs loads and loads of work doing to it. First thing first, had a look at electrics and wondered why any 3 bed house would need about 25 sockets in just the lounge and dining room. Turned power off and traced what I thought was a ring main to...

    Failed door varnish

What prep did you do?...When you say stripped,do you mean with a hotair gun or dipped? Did you use white spirit to clean the surface before applying coats. Did you rub down between coats?(and use white spirit again?) How long did you leave it between coats? Did you take letter plate off and...

Conservatory glass roof is it better or a gimmic

U value and the like are all ok but the deciding factor for me would be noise...ever been in a conservatory when it's raining? Glass is much less noisy than poly...unless you are already deaf,go for glass :-)

Cleaning stone window ledge . . . how?

Bleach and then a bit of bi carb and a stiff scrubbing brush will work a treat.

Fill small holes in PVC window

Countersink the holes very ,very slightly and then use stelmax...make sure its warm first as it will come out of the tube better. Make sure your hands are totally clean and only put a small amount in the hole as it dries really fast. Wet a finger and smooth over before it dries. Cut the...

Exterior window reveals.. what to use?

Post some photos. If you are filling over rotten timber you need to use a wood hardener or you are wasting your time. It will be much easier to advise you if you post a few photos up first though

Increasing glass thickness in sash windows to reduce noise.

Having the sashes draught proofed will decrease the noise more than having thicker glass. Plus it will help with heating and dust and dirt coming through the gaps all around the windows. Quicker to do the draught proofing as well,as changing the glass will mean having to wait at least a week...
