    Patio steps

Hi Yeah I’d want to do it properly, might have to look into the regs for this. I know damp proof course is a factor but it would be a big step down from the door

    Patio steps

Thanks I was thinking of raising the top step by one brick so that will still be around 100mm below the DPC. If not maybe taking the whole lot out and starting again with breeze block might be easier

    Patio steps

I’m laying an Indian sandstone patio but the steps are uneven and not parallel as well as having a big step down from the French doors. The plan is to lay slabs on top and render the side and front faces but is it possible to first add more concrete to extend the bottom step to make them all...

    Bathroom walls

Hi I’m renovating this bathroom and wanted some advice as to what best to put on the brick walls prior to having the non bath areas skimmed and the wet area tiled. I’m thinking of dot and dab moisture resistant plasterboard everywhere and tanking the wet areas, if so can the board touch the...

    Garden drainage

Hi I’m hoping for some advice on drainage around my house. I’ve dug out plants and down 150mm as the lawn was level with the damp proof course with a view to lay turf and then gravel in the trench. There’s no actual signs of damp in the house but it’s on a slope and wondered if I need to install...

    Kitchen tap

Hi I’m replacing a kitchen tap but haven’t come across a connector like the one feeding the cold tap tail, is this a female to male adapter? There’s no isolator as expected like the hot side so any help would be appreciated Thanks

    Chimney Pot

Thanks for your reply, there will be a flue liner going in. Sounds like the best bet is to get rid of what’s there and start again. It looks like the current pot isn’t sat on anything and I’m not sure how to narrow the opening at the top of the chimney to make a base for the new pot to sit on

    Chimney Pot

Hi I’m looking to install a wood burning stove but my current chimney pot isn’t big enough to attach a cowl to. It looks like something was placed on top previously so was wondering if it’s enough to just put a new pot on top with some mortar? I’m reluctant to break up all the flaunching and...

    Prepping a floor for laminate

I appreciate your time to help out. Think I should be able to get away with a decent underlay and laminate , I’ll probably end up extending the same floor into the lounge/ diner so a bigger area but won’t know the quality of the floor until I take up the old parquet

    Prepping a floor for laminate

Thanks HTH, it’s pretty solid but not perfectly even. Just laying underlay would definitely be my preferred option!

    Prepping a floor for laminate

Hi I’m looking to lay laminate flooring in a kitchen but wasn’t sure if / how the current floor needs to be prepared. It’s a combination of bitumen, old adhesive and concrete currently. I’ve read various thoughts such as PVA seal, SBR seal, liquid DPM, self levelling compound, Ardex NA or just...
