Thought you might like to know the answer. The engineer replaced the phtocell first...no joy. Then he replaced the control unit still no joy. After phoning a few others in the trade it turned out to be the solenoid.
After changing this...hooray....heating again.

You're right...I did mean the blower.
When I turn on the stat (I assume you mean the combined on / off & themostat control at the top right?), the blower starts.

I can hear the pump working on our boiler, but it is not firing up. Serviced only in Sept.
Oil tank level is fine and I've checked the header tank in the loft to ensure that water is getting to the boiler and it also is fine.
Anything I can do?
Ever since we moved into our house (17 years ago) there have been a couple of ring-mail cables running up the corner of our hall in close proximity to the pipes that run upstairs from the boiler (which is under the stairs.

Will I need to attempt to measure the angle of the ridge tiles or would that be...
Do I need to measure the "shape" of the corrugation or is it standard?
It's a concrete garage (think it was a Marley, but not sure) probably erected in the 80's; I'd guess that the "wavelength" of the corrugation is about 4 or 5 inches (obviously I could measure this accurately)
