    thanks for your input - I'll try that, tho' sceptical cos it's a brand new valve, but I see your logic. my gut tells me that it's a mismatch between the pressures, I would like some input as to yay or nay and what I can do about it.

    I feel moved to record my regard for the build quality of our 11 yr old WFF2001GB washing m/c. I have just replaced the brushes (worn to the copper cord!), after it refused to spin.
