Can anyone advise me if the auto air vent that sits near the hot water storage tank in airing cuboard should be open or closed during normal operation?
I know it should be open when draining/filling the system but am not sure whether leaving open is contributing to air being drawn into the...

Just a thought.
I am at home this afternoon and was in the bedroom when the HW just came on for tonight's baths etc. As the airing cuboard is in this room it allowed me to hear the problem again. I was always under the impression that it was happening when the CH was coming...
so I can let the pressure off?
Use any convenient drain point
Would the normal way of draining the system then be ok for this purpose? And for how long should this drain port be left open to let the pressure off?
Thanks ChrisR
If I'm replacing a different make model to the original I'm not sure if the two will work together like you say.
I only have one AAV so what would be classed as another inlet point to close so I can let the pressure off?
I will try and upload a pic of the one I have so you...
I need to change the automatic air vent completely and wondered how I should go about this as I have just added inhibitor to the system so don't want to dump it all.
Someone I was speaking to recently said that if I drain the system down to that highest point I should be alright without...

Yes mate I was the half tumblerfull one. Still having same old problem.
Obviously a bit reluctant to change auto air vent if it means draining system again.
But it seems this may be the only course of action to take to maybe sort this problem out. When I fitted the new...

What else should I be doing if I do that with the pump?
Will that not do damage to the pump's internals by turning on/off in quick rotation?
I have bled the system several times but still seem to be getting this problem.
Cheers ChrisR
Do you then think that any excess X400 left in system could be causing air bubbles to form?
Only reason I ask is because when I was up in loft looking at the F&E tank I noticed small air bubbles in the tank and the solution looked almost gel like, even though it seems thin...
Does anyone out there know any problems associated with X400 sludge remover and X100 inhibitor if mixed together?
Only asking because this is what I recently added to my CH system and after flushing the system through about 3 times I then added X100 inhibitor. Since then though, I'm still...
Turn the pump and/or system off. If your pump has a vent screw at the front open it (this is where you will have probably bled it from) now turn the pump back on and you should be able to see the pump spinning inside (probably anti-clockwise), if not then its defo jammed like the last thread...
I take it then you don't have a modern'ish programmer? As all programmers that I have come across do allow you to take the front off and access the electrics via a wall plate. This would then allow you to link up the circuit bypassing the programmer altogether. I have spoken to Drayton about...
Had a similar problem recently and it turned out to be the pump which I changed.
What I would suggest first though is to have a look at your programmer (if you have one) because these things can be delicate little buggers. If you do have one I suggest taking the cover off and looping the live...
Just an update.
I have turned down the speed on the pump to setting 2 (Grundfos UPS 15-50) because I think the CH and HW is ok at that speed but I'm still noticing that the original problem of this intermitent rushing noise through the pipes (particularly when first starting up) is still...
