Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

I have a screwfix 27in incaloy heater in my hand, I can confirm the thermostat tube is made of the same grey metal as the element, definitely not copper or silver paint :-) I notice the one Wickes is selling has a copper stat tube though, in the photo at least... I wasn't offered £10 or...

Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

Tony, we have a big blue cylinder containing pH correction medium (calcium carbonate I believe) which the borehole water passes through on its way to a large loft storage tank. We used to have media in there to remove iron and manganese too, but the filter back-washing wasted so much water I...

Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

Thanks for suggestion gas112 but I really don't want to have an emergency cylinder change on my hands if I have problems with the fix. I'm a DIYer so I need plenty of planning and shopping time... Also the cylinder I have is oversized - its a 170lt, I don't see the point of storing more than...

Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

Tony do you mean I shouldn't use the Screwfix Incoloy immersion heaters such as this? It says suitable for stainless steel cylinders. http://www.screwfix.com/p/27in-incoloy-immersion-heater/57798

Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

Many thanks for the help Tony. Should I go for copper or steel for replacement tank? Reviewers on Screwfix site seem to like their steel tanks because they have easy 22mm connections? Phil

Hot water cylinder leak - advice please

Hi, my indirect vented hot water cylinder has just started leaking slowly (4 drops per minute) from the upper coil connection. I think I bashed the pipe and started it :-( The water is coming out between the threaded pipe and the nut on the tank, as shown by arrows in photo: What is...

What's best flooring material, upstairs on 400mm joists?

thanks for the reply mac. As this is an outbuilding, I'm not planning to finish the floor with anything, though I might put some rugs on it. It will only get light use. I've laid pine floorboards before and it takes a while. I'm hoping by using a sheet material I can get it laid in a day.

What's best flooring material, upstairs on 400mm joists?

Hello, I want to lay an upstairs floor in a dry outbuilding. The joist spacing is 400mm. Total area is 52 sq m. There is no floor at present. I'd like to use a sheet material for speed - chipboard or plywood? T&G edges would be nice, if this means I don't have to cut boards to end on...

Engineered oak floorboards - how best to lay on joists?

I'd be very grateful for any advice on my flooring project. I've read lots of threads on several websites but I'm still not sure which approach is best for me. I've bought 1800x120x20mm oak engineered structural floorboards, with 6mm oak top layer, T&G on all four sides, to refloor two...

    Do I need a DBV?

Many thanks for all this helpful info DH. The reason I have this boiler is that someone who once owned my house had it installed! Perhaps its far too big. I need to take a look at the boiler calculator. Previous owner also installed 10 ludicrous cast-iron radiators which contain up to 40...

    Do I need a DBV?

I do have a mid-position valve. My possible concern with the Alpha 2 is that with the MP valve in CH only position, if most or all of my TRVs are closed, the pump will run very slowly in order to keep the differential pressure to 0.2bar or whatever, this will result in very little water...
