Help with wired alarm design in a new house

Hi Redbrickman. Fit PIRs in all the ground floor rooms that have a window, position them so they are not looking at the window & not above doors or radiators. At the main entrance fit a door contact & maybe a PIR depending if there are windows. You may also want to fit a contact on the...

How to commission a SAB bell box.

Hi Peter. I am not familiar with your panel & bell but why dont you connect up the bell first, use a screw or something to close the tamper spring on the bell. Then power up the panel, connect up the battery in the bell. Then remove the screw etc from the bell tamper, the bell will sound but...

    Faulty alarm

It all depends mate. A good alarm engineer will have it fixed in no time, but a new system is not that expensive & will give you peace of mind. Paul.

    Faulty alarm

So you have a tamper fault, simple. However finding the fault may not be that simple. Have you had any work done in the house recently that may have damaged the alarm. The next thing is how old is the outside bell box, could that be faulty or rusty inside. If you are competent working inside...

    Faulty alarm

What panel do you have & is it telling you anything when it goes into alarm. Is it showing a zone, tamper or fault.

IR cameras indoors but pointing outdoor

What you need to remember is that IR light is the same as any other normal light its just much higher up the spectrum. If you got a bog standard torch & held that up to your window the light would bounce back at you. Its exactly the same for IR lamps except you can not see the IR light but your...

Mouse bit thru House Alarm wire (Galaxy 16 )

The red core of the keypad cable is probably the 12v supply. At a guess without looking at a manual it will be 40ma ish, so no danger present. It will be a better job if you can solder the cable & put some heat shrink sleeving over it. You could do the same repair on the door contact cable...

    PIR's for cats...

Over the years I have fitted a fair few visonic pet pirs, but only for use with dogs & they all worked spot on. I remember last year fitting a domestic alarm & they had a cat which was locked in the kitchen during the day. All of the equipment was Texecom so I tried there pet pir, petwise I...

    Cctv Installation question

You need a modulator, it fits onto the coax cable from your aerial. Very simple to fit & use. This then sends your CCTV images down to all the TVs that are fed from the aerial. Then programme your TVs for another annalogue sinal. Paul.

    PIR's for cats...

The detectors that you mention are really designed for dogs. The detector will tollerate an animal that weighs less than say 80lbs in the visonic case, but if that animal gets above approx 1m high then it will go into alarm. As cats tend to climb on to furniture this will cause you a problem...

    help plz

Im not sure which box you mean. Is it the fused spur, that supplies your alarm with 230v. If yes then this should never have a noise coming from it & you should get some one to have a look urgently. Or is it the alarm panel end station, this does have a transformer inside & can become loose...

    Burgler alarm

Wireless is fine when it works but once you get a fault, thats when the fun starts. I pride my self on my fault finding skills on wired systems but a fault on wireless ? replace the device & hope for the best is not the way to go. Over many years fitting top end alarm systems I have had to...

    Veritas R8

It could work, you will need a permanent 12v supply to your PIR then sending the switched negative up to the strobe. Could you not fit another external bell on the outhouse, a modern type of bell with leds on it, they are a very good deterrent as "johnny burglar" knows the alarm is real &...

    18V dewalt batteries

No mate, just the drill. I had a look at the promotion with the impact driver but I would know what to do with it. Hopefully £260 well spent. Paul.
