    Folks, an update here. Managed to figure it out in the end, with the help of the tado chat support. Apparently, when my thermostat shipped out with some other configuration (Opentherm I assume), instead of relay mode, so the Support person changed that for me OTA, and lo and behold it works...

    Correct Batteries are the IKEA rechargeable ones 750mah, just took them out of the charger. Will buy some alkaline ones tomorrow to see if it fixes it. In the meantime, just took them out, tried to tap it and left the batteries out for a bit, to no avail.

    No no, I mean, have the connectors connected, but removed the brains of the tado ( I did it as I was worried in case something was shorted and was causing to be on all the time.

    Just put the L in a block and tried again, same issue unfortunately, boiler is still only in the On position. Tried removing the faceplate (not sure if right term) of the tado and turning on the boiler and the correct behaviour is observed, where boiler in Off, not sure if useful info. Thanks!

    Reporting back progress, connected as above, however, the bloody relay doesn't seem to be working - Despite having the tado thermostat in the off position, the Ideal boiler is not turning off :/ it's constantly in the on position - I checked the connections and it's all looking fine any ideas...
