    Nicked a gas pipe

Sorry to read how bad you feel about your lucky escape, a lot worse things have happened. To get even half way through the 1.6mm wall of a 15mm pipe the clean cut with a wood drill would be a lot wider. That said, once someone mentions renewing it, you feel inclined to. I'd have a look what the...

Scott, in case it is helpful for these people to know ... are the 3 radiators that are not getting hot downstairs or upstairs and not together in a separate part of the house ?

Thank you for the explanation John, Our system started 30 years ago fired by an Trianco TRG 45 Anthracite Boiler which was changed a few years later to an Ideal Classic in the garage, then an Ideal Logic in the loft in 2019 ... the pipework around the tank hasn't changed much since 1995.

I don't think I've seen a separator until now ... is it normal to have one? Is the "auto vent" on ours in place of a separator?

10 mins might be expected with 15 radiators and the mains only cracked open … I imagine there’ll still be a bit of air to come out of the radiators after it’s been stood a while …

Regarding the comp fitting if you put a pipe in each end they would be a distance apart, it’s that distance that would need cutting out of rigid pipework

I can’t help on that only to say the one to the pump does screw off and you would need to make sure all the pipes are metric as opposed to imperial.

It’s a combined radiator valve and drain off presumably - you use the white knob to turn the radiator on and off - how do you control the drain off - is there a plug inside the tube you remove with a bleed key ?

Your understanding is correct. If the tank is still full and the ballcock is still held up and the radiators are still empty then you certainly have a blocked feed pipe (B) I would use a plastic stop end to block the vent pipe (A) On its own the blocked pipe isn’t stopping your heating...

Here's a simplified version of what you're trying to do ... It was thought you had a blockage in the pipe from the F&E tank ... the top up pipe ... by applying mains water into the system with an hose pipe and blocking the vent pipe A it will force water thro to B and into the tank.

It is a drain valve over the boiler, but there could be any number of them fitted in the system, particularly where there's a separate leg where draining off near the back door wouldn't empty that part of the pipework

While you were blocking the vent pipe did any water come into the tank thro what is normally the outlet pipe to the system?

I’m interested to know how your radiator valves operate, how do you open the drain off / hose connector in order to feed the mains into the system?

The only connection between the mains water supply and the CH is the mains feed going into the F&E tank.
