Thanks Baxmax but I'm not a plumber so I'm a bit confused. Am I right to think that 'No' I don't have to drain the system but 'Yes' I should use the heat sink paste? I've never heard of this paste. Is its job to ensure a good contact, or what? What happens if I don't use the paste?

I am going to replace the central heating temperature sensor in my baxi combi 105e instant boiler. Will I need to drain the boiler first or can the replacement be done without draining it. Thank you.

hi, it's me again. if anyone is still there i will describe how things went after my last post. everything was fine until about 5pm - so for about 6 hours - and then all the lights went a little crazy. the boiler would heat to full temp then all lights would go off and the c/h sensor light...

thanks bunny. i tried to un-plug the two leads but no-go, i couldn't un-plug them. however, while trying i rubbed my arm against the pre-heat control and turned it on. now i should explain that since the repair to the boiler i had not switched the pre-heat function on because the c/h was on...

thanks bunny. i haven't tried to un-plug the sensors, but if i can would you suggest i give it a try? and thank you agile for your help. i don't have a meter to check the resistance but if i did have one, i'd certainly give it a try. also what do you mean by o/c? it's not a term i know.

thank you for your post bunny. i'm not quite sure what you mean by it though. are you asking if i could swap the electric leads that go to the two sensors, as if the repair man had put them back the wrong way round? the web site you gave was for an HE boiler, and mine is not one of those...

an addition to my last post. i have just noticed that on occasions when the lights don't work properly the boiler does,as usual, go on low flame when nearly at full temp but sometimes very briefly the flame suddenly gets bigger just before it turns off. when that happens i seem to hear a lot...

the heating cycle is: - ignition then to high flame, after a few seconds to low flame, then to high flame for the rest of the cycle until a few seconds before turning off when back to low flame. so in answer to your question - yes.

one further point for bunny. if everything now works ok, should i close the auto air vent cap again or leave it open? thank you for your post agile. i'll see how the air vent solution goes before trying anything else, but if the problem is not fixed i'll try what you suggest.

got it back in - finally. turned system on again and now waiting to see what happens. thank you bunny for your help so far - now fingers crossed.

found it. unscrewed it and it fell out. having real problems getting it back in. will system be ok if i leave it out? i've turned everything off for the time being.
