    Tanking with BW1

Just seen a video of someone using this product...manufacturers claim there's no need to tape board joints when using this. I can't see how that's the case. I understand it might not be necessary for tanking, but surely you'd still want to tape your joints to prevent cracked tiles etc? Anyone...

    Wall ready for tile backer?

Tried to upload the images directly here but amazingly being told they are too big despite being <1MB, so here's a link Looking to fix some tile backer to these walls ahead of tiling, as will be using some quite heavy tiles and this is a shower area. Plan currently is to use 6mm HardieBacker...

Cement board on plastered solid wall

To increase the weight bearing capacity of the wall and also another layer of water resistance. Currently it’s just plaster on blockwork, which doesn’t take much weight.

Cement board on plastered solid wall

@robinbanks it’s a cavity wall but no cavity insulation far as I know. It’s a very small room, don’t have the space to batten out and fix the boards to studs

Cement board on plastered solid wall

Hi all, Kicking off our bathroom refit soon and struggling to get a conclusive answer on this. The bathroom is blockwork on all four walls, plastered and painted. I’m planning to overboard with cement board (probably Hardiebacker) but not clear on the best way to go about it. Instructions...

    Moving plug socket

I’ve realised a mistake I made here overnight. If I connected the two cables currently in to the back box with one new one to run to the new socket, I’d be creating a spur. What I actually want to do is just extend the ring by moving the location of the current socket. So what I need to do is...

    Moving plug socket

Very sorry ericmark but almost all of that is totally unapproachable from a DIY perspective…

    Moving plug socket

Hi all, Currently planning to rearrange our bedroom a little. I'll be moving the bed 90 degrees to the left and putting some wardrobes in where it currently is. The headboard will be against a chimney breast so I'll be boxing in the alcoves either side for some additional storage. There's...

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

Thanks @Madrab. Has put my mind at rest but will certainly be turning the mains off when we leave later on. If the bath we never use can spontaneously leak, who knows what else can!

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

Thanks all, please to report Christmas and our holiday are saved. Should anyone end up back here, I will share what I did but will stress it is clearly not as per manufacturers recommendations and is a VERY temporary measure. The speedfit inserts I have are the ones with the double O ring. It...

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

Best I can do is run the taps to remove any pressure from hot and cold feeds once the mains is off. This is under a downstairs bath so I’ll not be able to drain below the level of the fix, but if it was to leak there would be a negligible amount of water to come out

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

@StephenStephen this is a hot water feed not central heating

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

Yep, got tonnes of the things! Only really need this to hold for a few hours today then the mains will go off again till we’re back from our trip. Never thought I’d be glad to get a leak on Christmas Day but we’re away for over 3 weeks so could have done some serious damage…

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

@Stuckinarut i don’t have the tool to remove the old hep2o fitting so i need to just cut the pipe, no way to reuse the existing insert. Need to have a proper look but looks to be where the pipe connects to the flexi for the tap

Hep2o with speed fit fittings in emergency

Hi all, Just returned from the in laws for Christmas Day to a leak in our downstairs bathroom. Looks like the flexi is leaking on the bath tap. We are going away tomorrow and all the shops are shut anyway. Everything under there is hep2o pipe and fittings. All I have in the shed is some jg...
