Am I being conned by British Gas?

Hi, just by way of an update for those of you who were kind enough to offer advice previously. BG came today to service the boiler. I mentioned that the boiler was at risk last time and asked the gas man if he would give it a really good clean as had been suggested in this thread. The outcome...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

I'm hoping to be able to move, however, I work in local govt and my jobs at risk as well as the boiler and I'm on a threat of redundancy notification! So I'm waiting to find out what comes of that before making a decision. From what I've read on the thread though, I could ask an independent...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

But if I decide to sell my property, I would have to declare this. Is this fair given that the test is of negligible use?

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Thanks for the further input and clarifying re FGA. When they next come to clean the boiler I will be insisting that it gets a thorough clean before the FGA, fingers crossed it will pass.

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Re the water, he didn't show me a sample, but he was collecting water into a small container on the garden, which was of course overflowing. The only reason I can think for this was so he could show me dirty water, but it was in fact crystal clear so he just ignored this when I pointed it out...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Hi ScottishGasMan Are you saying that it is likely BG aren't cleaning the boiler thoroughly enough? (I think I need a Gas for Dummies book!) Re the rads, they do all heat well and evenly and no gunge at all coming out of them. Rick

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Hi So can I check if I've got this right, the boiler, it's at risk, but this seems to be due to a test that doesn't strictly have to be done, but BG do it. It is not presenting any immediate risk when it is operated at its usual settings, which is why the engineer didn't lock it off...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Thanks for the replies. When I asked a BG engineer about the boiler he told me not to worry as it is not being operated at Max level. If that's the case I don't understand why it is at risk, rather than not up to current standards? He also told me something along the lines of this is not a...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Hi 45Y I've got home and dug out the paperwork that was left re the boiler. It says on the advice notice; AR - Flue connection/ spigot damaged/dented, failed performance test at maximum. Fine at minimum, as found & left. NCS - Multi pot termination, Gas pipe next to cable. On the...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Thanks for the replies The engineer as far as I am aware didn't put any inhibitor into the system. He also didn't bleed the rads. After he left the CH was not heating the rads downstairs. I let out a massive amount of air from a rad near the pump and all seemed to be OK again. I couldn't...

Am I being conned by British Gas?

Hello I have a Glowworm back boiler which is about 23 years old which has been serviced yearly by British Gas under their homecare contract since we moved into the house in 97. Recently, the motorised valve started to stick and wouldn't move to the hot water only position and the rads...
