Using old meter cable to shed

Yes, there isn't a huge amount of slack in it, but you could pull it out and possibly put a weatherproof junction box on the outside wall? They obviously cut it off close to the wall so it didn't stick out, though why they left the red and blue... Indicates they were still thinking of using it...

Brick arch with iron support - widening cupboard/doorway

Thanks Noseall - happy to look up how to do it online and would be confident - but does it need building regs? Feels like it is structural, so it does...? And can I confirm, based on the pics, there isn't enough space to shave say 2cm of either side (which is annoyingly what I would need)...

Using old meter cable to shed

Thanks everyone - whatever the case, the time and help given especially above is great. We're redoing a bathroom (still, 12 months on) which will need an electrician to sign off, so will disconnect and wait until then. I don't want to waste someone's time or pay them only to be told the...

Using old meter cable to shed

Will post a closer photo - there is an earth, but someone cut it off so only using the red and blue. The other end is behind plasterboard and you can barely see it so won't be able to photo. But I will rip it out anyway. Yes, the whole thing isn't earthed - so I I were to use it, would need to...

Brick arch with iron support - widening cupboard/doorway

Here is the other side, looks like it’s sitting on mortar anyway. Oh and the walls are two bricks wide!!!

Brick arch with iron support - widening cupboard/doorway

Here is a picture of the one arch end. I’m assuming I can’t just lose an inch off the bricks below right? That seems to be exactly where the arch goes to. Do I need building regs or control - and is it something I can do myself anyway with a lintel or steel? Feels that with one floor of single...

Brick arch with iron support - widening cupboard/doorway

Hi, We have an old victorian cottage (terraced) with a layout I have never been able to figure out. In any case, we have a pantry in the kitchen which was clearly and old doorway (mirrored on living room side) and in replacing kitchen we want to ideally widen the old doorway which is now the...

Using old meter cable to shed

It may not be 25mm2 but it's absolutely massive. About an inch wide with the armoring.

Using old meter cable to shed

Hi, I have a shed (old coal shed for Victorian property) which is across the driveway from the house. It has what I think is 25mm2 armored cable (looks like a meter tail) in it, that is connected to double socket in the shed, and to a plug socket behind the kitchen base cabinet!! Never knew...

    Paving on grass slope

I have a grass slope, not much of an incline - about 1foot drop over the 4.5m I want to lay flooring on. The grass is on thick soil very high in clay - very wet in winter. I want to level it off and while it comes off the bottom of a deck, we have a large deck and don't really want more...

Treating OSB for Vinyl Flooring in Bathroom

Hi, I have 18mm OSB laid down in a new bathroom, screwed into joists beneath. I've probably sunk the screw heads a bit much, and there are some joins where one board butts up against another. Wondering what the best thing to do is beneath vinyl flooring. Wondered about a resin of some kind...

    Changing Extension to Bathroom

The issue is that the extension was built to building regs several years ago. The insulation is terrible, but the room is tiny. The main issue has always been the concrete floor and so we have simply taken the opportunity to put insulation in as we were lifting the effective floor up 8 inches...
