Fixing Floor Joist to Chimney breast

Hi. I would like to have a floor joist installed to extend a room horizontally into a loft space. Current floor joists run from party wall to internal load bearing wall. An extra joist is needed to run paralell to the existing ones. Some of the existing joists are built into an unused chimney...

Water Pressure and Flow Rate for Ensuite

Hi, I am in the process of planning an ensuite bathroom in our house (still!). We have a combi boiler rated at 38kw. The boiler is sited in our cellar. There are 3 floors in the house with a kitchen on the ground floor, with taps which are sited directly above the combi in the cellar. On the...

    Support for Purlins

I've had a builder around to have a look at this. The red floor joists have been notched to accomodate a waste pipe. This has been done right in the centre of the span on the top surface. The angle iron is acting as a binder as Woody explained.

    Extending a room into roofspace

Cheers. Part of the new area was going to house a bath and the getting in and out will get too difficult if the ceiling is too low. As it stands then, I can leave the wall where it is and have a less insulated room than if I made the changes. Building regulations are confusing :)

    Extending a room into roofspace

The floor in the the existing room sits on proper sized original floor joists. The floor which is currently ceiling joints will be brought up to this level and this is accounted for. The addition for floor covering has also been taken into account. To give you an idea of the room height, the...

    Extending a room into roofspace

Hi All. I would like some advice on how building regulations will affect a project I am undertaking in my Victorian semi. The house has 3 floors and I want to do work on the top floor. There are currently 2 bedrooms on this floor and also a store/box room and shower room. I have removed the...

Immersion Heater doesn't heat enough hot water

The cylinder does have 2 heaters. As I've said above, when I switch on the 24hr option I can hear the water heating up. I can also hear it heating up when the economy 7 kicks in (24 hour option switched off) Am I right in thinking that one of the elements is for economy seven and the...
