Stupid question of the day: linoleum tiles over concrete

Thank you for that detailed response. I have checked that the underfloor heating system is suitable for laminate, so that's one less thing to worry about. The reason I am thinking about leaving the lino tiles intact is also because I don't know if the mastic used has asbestos in it. I read...

Stupid question of the day: linoleum tiles over concrete

Hello all, I live in a maisonette built in 1965. It is part of an estate. I will be installing floating laminate flooring in our lounge and hallway. To prepare I have pulled up the existing carpet and linoleum tiles that were in the hallway. I'm about to tackle the lounge. I want to...

Impossible to turn off water at mains- what can be done?

Just a quick thank you for all of your helpful replies. The plumber rented a freezing machine (don't know the make), froze the water, replaced the broken valve, and presto! It was a good learning experience if nothing else!

Impossible to turn off water at mains- what can be done?

Thanks everyone. The plumber is coming by today. If he's unable to freeze it I'll go back to the porters and see if we can turn off the water at the source of the tank. And **** off all of my neighbours for the next couple of days... ;)

Help identifying type of wall covering/plaster

Yeah, it's not a great photo, sorry. I can't remove any of the surface, although I can see where it has been scratched, and it's brownish, almost pulpy. The overall surface is very very smooth, almost slippery to the touch. It has been papered before, without any problems. I would just prefer to...

Help identifying type of wall covering/plaster

Hi, We recently moved into our first home, built in 1965. It's part of a large estate. I have been removing old wallpaper and repainting. Some of the walls consist of a very smooth, almost slippery, cream coloured substance. It's not plaster. I don't know what it is. I'd like to repaint...
